Thanks for the kind words. The engine looks so good because I cleaned, files, and sanded out the rough spots before painting it with Duplicolor Silver. To get a more anodized aluminim shade, just cover the silver with clear coat.

I have yet to deal with the handle bar switches. L/H should mean low / high for the head lights but on most bikes this is on the right side switch. The other switch should be L/R for the turn signals.

Get in gear and get started on your bike!

I think the PO loved black paint, he painted the front and rear wheel hubs and bits with a heavy black paint.

Did you ever find a vendor for the choke plate?   I have the same problem, except mine was missing.

Not yet and my inquires for the part come back with "I'll sell you and old carb for $ 60.00 +".

I suspect I'll just purchase a new one from one of the Ebay suppliers. At least I will not need to rebuild it.

And the center hub. I'm going to go to Harbor Freight tomorrow to purchase a blind bearing removal tool kit.

BTW, the new bearings will be sealed ones.

Here is the refinished rear hub. Removing the bearings was not as easy as I was lead to believe however they did come out. I think my problem was I had removed the rear hub from the wheel and lost all my leverage. On the front wheel I will remove the bearings before I dis-assemble the wheel.

I installed the brake shoes onto the rear hub. The last picture is my favorite brake lube, it does not run and you only need to use a very small amount.







This also a very good lube for speedometer gears in the front wheel as it stays where you put it.

While I wait for spokes and rims, time to start on the front wheel.

BTW, I was correct, it is much easier to remove the wheel bearings while the wheel is completly assembled.

Just a comparison picture so you can see how small the front brake really is.





I don't know if anyone noticed but the PO used the wrong type of grease (black wheel bearing type) to lube the speedometer gear assembly. When it get hot, is will flow and might contaminate the brake shoes!

Remember my earlier post about the PO using wheel bearing grease to lube the speedometer gear. Look inside the front brake hub at all that black goo!
