Any experience with the Yamaha TX750
« on: July 14, 2009, 08:08:06 PM »
I've got a line on a cheap one in the area. I did a little reading and know their basic history. I can't really figure what they're worth since there were so few made and hence don't come up for sale often. I really like the look of them, especially the motor. Anyone here have personal experience with one?

There have been several for sale locally the last few months.  Usually for $400 or less.  One runner in nice shape was asking $800.  They don't seem to have much value regardless of how rare they may be.  I was thinking of picking one up just for the oddity of it.  No personal experience but just a few things I picked up in researching them. The 74 would be the better choice as the major issues were supposedly fixed.  The 73 will survive if not run hard at high RPM.  The odd oil filter is very difficult to find but at one time someone was making a spin on filter modification.  The crankshaft balancer can be difficult to adjust on the 73 eventually making the bike vibrate worse.  Some remove the balancer and run without.  It will vibrate but probably no worse than a typical vertical twin.  They are pretty smooth if it is working properly. It would be a plus if it was a runner so you could tell if the engine was not damaged.  NW Vintage Cycle Parts was about the only place that has a decent supply of parts for this bike.  I like the look of the bike too and it would be a challenge.
