I'm sure I'll get flack for this....
Why not just grind off the VIN numbers on both frames and transfer the titled VIN to the untitled frame.... then place the titled VIN tag over the stamped VIN.
That way you can keep your original frame with all your original bits.
Sorry guys I know it isn't legal but if you already own both frames I don't see the point.
I'll go into detail through PM if you like.... I don't want anyone stealing bikes out there.
it is a stupid idea because:
a) it is illegal. That in of itself is not bad but in some states where an officer has to inspect the vin or the DMV has to inspect the vin they can fail you, confiscate your bike, etc....plus if you get an officer just looking to start something he can confiscate your bike for a "dodgy vin". If you don't think that this happens try being a hotrodder in NY where in the 1990s Queens cops used to carry little jars of acid to test for restamped vins.
b) it presumes you are going to own this bike forever and that it is going to the scrap yard after you die. selling this to someone would be perpetuation the fraud and basically transferring the potential problems to someone else. Since most sellers won't disclose this (espically if they are 3 and 4 times removed) it is basically like passing a poison bike around.
c) it devalues it. sure these bikes aren't worth much now but that won't be the case forever.
yes you can transfer all the 73 750 frame to the 1974 cb750 frame without issue. It is a smart and prudent idea if you can get the frame for about what a title company would charge (maybe a little more).
