CB900F Super Sport?
« on: July 13, 2009, 09:52:33 PM »
Anyone own on or ridden one? I went out with a friend today to look at CB900F. The owner told me to take her out to the paved hi way. The Steering seemed very heavy while stopped and moving at low & hi speeds. The bike on the gravel shook quite a bit on gravel which I would except a bit, but so much that I had to muscle the handlebars which I know your not suppose to do. My 750 sure seems more stable on gravel. When we got on the paved road steering still felt really heavy but didn't shake as much. It leaned OK but just really heavy steering even at speed. When I tested out the brakes it shook really bad right before stopping and I'm pretty sure there was no gravel that we slipped on. she said she felt shaking while riding on the pavement. I know its a pretty heavy bike but still is the steering suppose to be that heavy? 750s are heavy too and don't feel that way in the steering.

Sounds like the head rsces need adjusting/replacing
Semi Geriatric ex-Honda mechanic and MOT tester (UK version of annual inspection). Garage full of "projects" mostly 500/4 from pre 73 (no road tax in UK).

I had one for a few years.  Something's up with the steering, it should be pretty light & flickable (even for a 19 inch front wheel).  I'd say headset bearings, badly worn front tyre or wrong size front tyre (bigger is not better).

When set up properly they handle really well (except at 180 kmh + in a straight line, then you get the "death wobble").

The motor's are a little fragile.  The CB1100F is a better bet (gee I love them in metallic red/white!).

What do you know about the motors? It sounded a lot more quite & sound  hen my CB750 but sohc's are louder motors too. The owner called her back and said he supposedly fixed the wobble. I'm sure curious what it was... I,m guessing  it was  too tight steering bearing races like you said or a lose rear stabilizer bar in the back. It did go into sorta a death wobble when braking semi hard...  :-\
