CB400f Rearset Option Thread
« on: July 14, 2009, 08:52:06 PM »
Hi all,
Was wondering if anyone had definitive answers about rearset options for the 400 four. Im having trouble locking down a specific modern sport bike make and year to look for. Is there someone who knows for instance, the rear set off this particular year bike, works great with the 400? I can weld up mounting points on the frame but want to know which ones work best with the least amount of fabrication. I am currently setting up the bike for track events so daily comfort is not my main concern. I am 6'2 and 200ib so getting my feet back is imperative for my riding position.

Please post up any information, pictures, suggestions, or otherwise.

I am currently making some brackets so I can mount these on my 400.

I'm utilizing some stock mounting points to attach brackets made from aluminum that those rearsets will then bolt onto.

...Or you can just buy some from this guy. He's on the level and great to deal with. There is two sets, one requires welding the other doesn't. The one's that require welding aren't listed but I think he can get them and they're cheaper than the bolt on one's.

Attached are some pics of a CB350F track bike with FZR600 Yamaha rearsets mounted.  I welded a short (4") length of angle iron (1/2"x1/2"x1/8") to the frame just behind the swingarm pivot.  Face the angle forward.  The rearsets bolt to this.  You will need to shorten the rear engine mount bolt as it no longer goes thru the stock footpegs.  I cut it shorter and welded a larger nut to one side and keep the threaded portion on the other end.  You don't need nuts on both ends if it doesn't hold the foot pegs on any longer.

You can see how I adapted the brake side to the drum brake on the 350F.  On the shift side, the FZR piece will fit the Honda shift shaft.  You will need to shorten the rod to make the linkage work.  If you are careful, you can make it work for both GP and regular shift patterns with the same length of rod.

rat:  i would for sure order from 400four, i love their stuff, excellent quality, unfortunately, i cant afford $500 rear sets ; )
also, i cant seem to get fastfromthepast website to open? i will keep trying.

triffecpa: those fzr sets look great and i might be able to source a set relatively cheap, thanks for the pics.

Nice bike, are you running it with the header only? Bet that sounds cool. Yeah I think the rearsets he has that require welding are only $120. It's worth sending him an email if you can't find another option.
The rearsets I  bought are Tarozzi. They fold up like the stock peg so I can keep the kick start.

Yes, it's a stock 350F tank with the tank emblem areas filled in.
