At the request of a member who was looking to purchase some rims from me, I removed the old tire only to find, an innertube, and rust inside the rim  >:(  Since these tires are marked tubless, I am guess that they are no longer able to hold a seal due to the rust somehow compromising them, so the PO put innertubes in them. If the rust goes all the way under the little rubber band that is covering the spoke threads, does this mean these rims are shot?

Mags or spoked rims?  If they are spoked they have to have tubes a lot of people run tubes in tubles tires on their spoke wheels becasue you can get a better variety of tire. If they are standard honda spoke wheels rust inside the rim is common and is not an issue.

ahhh, I figured tubless meant no tube  :)

Anyhow, here is a pic, this is the worst of it, its not surface rust, but I honestly don't believe that it makes them unsafe structurally. I thought that since it said tubless tire, it meant there shouldn't be a tube  :-[

Checkflag, let me know if you still want them, sorry for the delay, I honestly just didn't want to send you rubbish. If you want them I can get them boxed and sent out monday evening or tuesday morning at the very latest (sorry, I am super busy tomorrow  :( )

PS they are chrome, not SS.

Looks fine to me.  Mine looked as bad or worse before I got them blasted and powdercoated.  Now they looks great and there is zero rust under the powdercoat thanks to the blasting.

That's really mild rust comparied to what mine looked like.  I'm on a budget so I went at them with various wire wheels and then hit them pretty hard with some rust converter, etching primer, and paint.  They look prety good now.  I think they will hold up over time too.

I used wire wheels, a file, and a CHISEL to remove the thick rust on my front wheel after it sat outside for 5 years. It's fine, but I also treated the damaged areas with some of that rust-convertor spray that makes it into primer, and let it dry, before installing a new band and tube and tire.

Is anyone able to report an experience of rim rust that was too advanced to save the rim for street use?  Pictures?
Just wondering what's beyond salvage.
