19K time change
« on: July 20, 2009, 09:01:32 AM »
Well, it's time to change the chain on the 1976 CB550.
This has to be the most miles I've ever gotten out of a chain,
espesically one that's 33 years old.  ???

Putting off doing the head gasket until this coming winter, as we in
the NorthEast, USA have had so few good riding days this summer.
peace,
michel

You are right about having so few good days, rain , rain and then more rain. the temps have been nice.
33 years on a chain! I guess it's time to change it out, just a wild guess but the sprockets are proabably pretty worn out too. I'll bet you don't get 33 years on the next chain unless of course you hardly ever ride it.

The people at Sprocket Specialist say they have an O-ring chain for it,
but not in stock. ???
I bought the bike w/ 6,000 miles on it 3 years ago.
So I don't put many miles on anymore, along with not riding last year due
cutting off a couple of inches on the left hand fingers.
