two things on that: the seat makes me wonder what a 400f seat would look like on a 500/550, and where did they get the chrome chain guard? mine's black plastic.

+1 on the chain guard. I was wondering the same thing. Looks so much better than beat up old black plastic (at least mine is beat up anyway).

i seem to remember seeing the chrome chain guards on fleabay. can't recall price or seller, but i remember thinking it was pretty reasonable...

Wow...I drove down Pleasant Run between Arlington and Ritter right after all that blew through and it was like a war zone!...just got back from a ride and it's still a mess. Did you have any damage to your property? Some branches down here and there in Emerson Heights, but nothing like over by you.

We didn't get much damage on NW corner, but at about 12:45 it was sooo dark outside... really scary. I mean like beyond nighttime.

Got lucky on my property, no damage to speak of other than branches and some water seepage in the basement (which is good cuz i'm in line for a new roof this fall or spring).

My wife was home all day and she said that she'd never felt the house shake like that. She was huddled down in the basement with the cats for a few. I haven't seen dark and ominous like that for a while.

Hey guys, thanks for asking! Yes, the bike (and us) survived the storm....just barely. The wind managed to unbutton the cover on the rearside, but nothing important got wet. AT&T just got our internet back up and going. So, as far as the bike goes. I painted the frame black using that "Appliance Paint" that my car restoring buddy told me about. It sets up super hard, and looks great for a spray can. You can find it at Lowes. As for the chrome chainguard...look closely in my first pic. This bike came with a chrome chainguard, although you couldn't tell it with all the rust present. I'm going to clean and polish it up and add it back to the bike. I managed to clean up the engine, high temp paint the block and lower half of the head, then reapply the cleaned up covers. I like the look so far. Unfortuently, the chrome guard, along with my wheels are currently submerged in water in my cellar. I've got a pump on the way, but it shouldn't hurt them all that bad. Shoot, it may even clean them up a little! So, on with the picture show:

Hey guys, anyone know of a good place to get my tank painted professionally around Indy? Also, a good place to upholster the seat for a reasonable price? Ya, I could do it myself, but the contours seem difficult, and the wifes sewing machine is down...I'm thinking professionally done without breaking the bank. Any suggestions are appreciated!

A couple guys at work had their seats upholstered for a reasonable price recently. I'll get the info tomorrow. I think it's somewhere close to where I work (96th and Hague Rd).

Not sure about painting though..... joe

There are several. I will likely use Indy Powder Coating for my next custom paint job. THey have an artist that paints for them as a sub-contractor. www.indypowdercoating.com

If you call and talk to the owner Gary, tell him the guy with the gold CB750 frame referred you. Doesn't hurt to get brownie points.

The motor wasn't easy. I did the poor man's method of pulling it over some multch, removing the mounts and oil filter housing, and then slowly...and man I mean slowly...setting her down on her right side into the pile of multch. I then just used my back to hoist the engine up and out . This is probably the worst way to do it, but it got er' done....without buying an engine hoist.

Yes, for powder coating, I will probably goto INDYPOWDERCOATING as well. Funny you mentioned that, as I was on their website the previous night. I'll still tell them you sent me though. Thanks guys!

P.S. I've got the carbs soaking in lemon juice for the past 24 hours...I tried ultrasonic but it didn't do much for them.

Ok I was thinking some thing like that, tho it will be winter and I will have to come up with some thing. May get a friend or two to give me a hand as my back is not so good these days. Thanks for the info.

IPC took some time to tell me they want to be a "one stop shop" for the cosmetic part of cars and bikes. They powder the frames and wheels etc. And then their painter helps coordinate and design the paint schemes. We'll see. They have samples of the painters work in the showroom, pin stripes, air brush, photo album, etc.

Ok, so I finally got the wheels cleaned up, wire brushed, and polished. No paint on the rear and just a little on the front. Not yet sure if I want to powder coat the wheels black, but for now I just wanted them back on the bike, so here it the current state with 21 days to go before I need the bike ready for September riding.

Finally got to the carbs this week. Carb 1 has a stuck...not sure what you call it...the cylindrical throttle controlled piece that goes up and down vertical on the needle valve...ya, that piece. It seems stuck to the inside cylindrical walls. When I apply the throttle linkage, all of the carbs move how they should except for number 1. Anyone had experience with this type of problem? I'm thinking penetrating fluid? The rest of the carbs are cleaning up well. I'm still replacing all 4 main and idle jets on the carbs though...needles look fine and all the float pieces cleaned up nice. After the soak in lemon juice and the ultrasonic, the buildup cracked off in pieces. Not sure how it would have been without the soaking, but seemed pretty easy using a small flathead screwdriver to do the scraping.

Had the same problem with by carbs. just put some wd40 in them or even spray the piss out of them with carb cleaner and it should free it up.

Thanks Bean, I'll give it a shot...and MAX awesome looking bike...man you stretched that tank to the MAX...looks great.

Update: Got my stainless steel hex bolt set in the mail today. A pretty good deal at $18 bucks w/ shipping included off eBay.
Next on the agenda is getting these carbs back on the bike. Going to pick up the jets tomorrow lunch at Cycle Recycle. Also, the next mini-project is making a removable back cowling using a chopped metal basket frame, metal mesh, and body filler. Sounds jakey, but I think it will turn out nice. As for a paint scheme...I'm still not sure. I may just give it to my cousin who is a chopper mechanic in Shelbyville and let him have at it. He's pretty good with the bikes. I'll post picks. Also, picked up all the seat fabric from the fabric store. I'm going to take the dremel tool to the fiberglass seat pan, and put small holes around the perimeter. Then tack it using rivets. I'll post pics soon. Later all!
