So I got the carbs FINALLY rebuilt. Wound up dropping the "ton" on the rebuild kits for all four of them. Most all the jets were clogged. The guru at Cycle Recycle II here in Indy recommended I get the smaller pod intakes vs. the 39mm (or is it 29mm?) ones. They fit better once put back on and only require a little more stretching to get over the carbs. The jets in the rebuild kits were 100's over the stock 98's. I did break one of the bowl leaf springs (one out of the two arms on it) when I put it all back together so I'll need one of those sometime. The manner that it broke left enough to keep it in place.  All that is left is a battery, wiring, clean and paint the tank, new fuel lines and filter (just in case) and get this seat done. Arg, still a lot of work left with such little season to go. And to make matters worse, some guy just drove down my street on his 750 four and I had to droole looking at his bike....anyway...on with the new pic!

Looks good.

Sorry if I missed it, but what are you going to do for the exhaust?

Get that thing done so you can ride it!  ;D  I need someone to ride with.

I've been riding to work about once a week and then every-other evening or so for relaxation.  I NEVER see these old CB bikes when I'm out riding here in Indy.  One of these days I'd love to have an opportunity to wave at someone who was on one.  I did get a big thumbs up from a Harley rider the other day on Emerson Ave....he must have owned one long ago or something...he about wrecked staring at my bike as he rode by and then gave a big thumbs up as he sped off (loudly).  :D

CBJoe:  I ride through your area just about every time I'm out....one of these days maybe I'll catch you outside.

Thanks everyone!

CBJOE: Cleaned up the stock 4-1 exhaust and plan on going stock for now. Its in good shape. Thought about doing the wrapjob on the headers but they cleaned up too nice to wrap or flat black yet. It's the same exhaust as the one in this video:

Moth: Yep, They have piles of seats at CycleRecycle II. Just remember not to get there before 12:30pm or the guru guy won't be in yet.

HedNut: Fuse box?

IndyFour & Joe: You said it! I can't wait to get on the bike and ride downtown with you all. I'm in greenwood, but I commute north side to southside everyday. You're right, I NEVER see these bikes either. Saw a SUZUKI up on 82nd last week, but that was the closest. The guy who went past my place in Greenwood had a similar bike, with a great sounding exhaust. The badges were removed, but I'm pretty sure it was a 750 four. Also saw a badass BMW cafe parked on MASS AVE a few weeks ago. Again, just can't wait...I'm thinking about taking this Friday off to finish the bike. A good day or two, and a lot of luck, should get me on the road.

Wow! It's been a while guys! So the bike survived the winter outside and I managed to build a "shop" around it (Bigger than a minibarn-smaller than a full garage-8x16), so now I can burn the midnight oil working on finishing her up. So here is the update:

Finished the seat: Had a local friend of mine who owns a racing business take the seat to his buddy. Turned out better than I could have ever imagined.

Wheels & Tires:
Picked up new tires at Cycle Recycle II downtown. Think I paid 120 for the both of them. Don't recall the sizes off hand, but it is the most popular mix. They are off getting mounted on the wheels by the same friend of mine, as well as some special paint on the rims. Not giving it away yet, as you'll just have to wait for the pics.

Rest of the Bike:
Handlebars are the holdup right now. Have to drill out the wiring opening in the bars. Have 1 of 3 holes drilled to run the wiring out to the switches. Once that is done, the harness goes back on, test the coils, and tune her up according to the shop manual. That will pretty much do it. The tank will get painted stock midnight blue with a 3" white stripe down the center. My cousin in Shelbyville will have the honors of doing the paint job. In the meantime, I'm leaving it brushed steel, and I'll just keep it looking fresh until paint time.

Anyone use on the the Dyna S ignitions? I thought about adding this thing, but my points and condensers look good.

Again, I'll post pics once I get the wheels back on. Hopefully will pick them up this weekend. Can't wait!

So after one year almost to the day, I started her up and she runs! I've been driving around the block the last three nights burning the crud out of the exhaust baffles and headers. She sounds mean. I have TONS of pics, but have to transfer them to here. Hopefully I'll make the next Indy vin moto Thursday night ride. Oh, and did I mention that the bike turned out pretty tough looking! I need new points though, as mine had to be buffed with sandpaper to get a spark. Thanks to this forum, cycle recycle, and Brian from Trehune Raceworks for all the help. Now for those pics....

Took it for a ride over 1 mile today...still need to get the title. Have the police inspection, but bmv sys I need a judge declaration to obtain new title...oh well, at least it runs. All that is left is front brakes, front signals, and brake LEDs...almost there. Oh, and I'm painting those side panels black and white, possibly some color in them took...haven't decided yet.

Hey Indyracer.  A friend of mine from work titled an old bike and somehow got around all the bmv crap by filling out some paperwork.  I will ask him what he did.  All he had was a bill of sale and I believe he went through the process as if it was a lost title and had no problems.  I think it also depends upon who you get at the license branch too.  The story may change between different people or branches....at least that was the case for him.

ya, the seat is different forsure...Trehune Raceworks hooked me up there. Think it was $80 bucks for him to finish the seat, given the pan and foam. Serves dual purpose as a riders seat (and she will have to hold on tight :), and stripe (will eventually continue up the tank).

Indyfour: Thanks man, i'll try just filing for a lost title and see how it goes. I'll post the results and the branch.

Z: Ya, thought about chopping the back and mounting the brake LEDs under the seat. What do you all think about just removing the back fender and leaving the front?

I think you have to have some thing there, even if its just a short fender, I don't think the seat will make the back end finished, unless it had some sort of fender built in, or a tail light.. However that is just my preference.

No title yet but almost there...looks like my branch will take a police inspection doc, along with a bill of sale, just as long as the bill of sale is on their official form. Mine was not, so I got to get the guys signature again....

The 550 looks good man!  Hopefully I will get mine wrapped up here in the near future.  My goal is by MotoGP at the end of August (need to bust butt)!  I am just down on the southside of Indy.

Anyway, regarding getting your bike titled, you should only need a bill of sale (as far as I know, it can be hand-written on a piece of paper) and an affadavit.  You must have an officer look at the bike and verify that the title is clear and the vin matches and then he signs the form.  I am in the process of doing the same myself.

Thanks guys, So far, so good. Bike is running well, but seems like it misses every now and then. Most likely the points, since I've yet to adjust the timing and had to carefully sand the points just to get spark. Thinking about switching to a dyna electric, but not sure of the drawbacks, if there are any....

Yes, no taillight yet, but have the parts, just been too hot to work in the sweatbox I call the shop. Going with the LEDs under the seat look for the tail, as I'll prob chop the rear fender a bit.

MotoGP is a great goal to have...maybe see you there.
