Are the wheels on the two years the same diameters? How do I measure the wheel, is it from the axle to the outer rim?

I think you'll find the size on the tire sidewalls. Could
you jot those down and post it in this thread?

This miss info is for US models. The 79 (reverse comstars) had a 17" rear.
The 80 Went with 17'' spokes on the standard and 16" comstars on the custom. Comstars had the size stamped on the "main rib".
As for the front they are all 19''. Width is (I thuk) 2.5 rear and 2.15 front. Have heard of 1.95 fronts too. But who knows what people have done over the years to the bikes.

The rear says it's a 17" and the front says 19".
