OK well after seeing all these cafe build I have scrached building a bobber and moving in a different direction. It all started with a free 1975 cb550f yes I said it free. I got it from a Guy who loves cafe bikes but didn't have the time to fix this one up again and keep it going. well I will post pics. been messing around with it cleaning some carbs and figuring out all the wiring. the PO said it ran a month ago until he parked it and took the carbs and start stop switch off of it to fix another bike he had. Well on to the pics.

here are the pics when I brought her home.

and yes boiling carbs in pure lemon juice is awesome they come so clean.

playing around with some colors and think I found it. going to be painted silver with some metal flake in it.

oh and it only has 35k miles on the bike and 12 on a rebuild motor. so Im stoked. just got done ordering a new start stop switch and waiting on my carb rebuild kit and the time to call Roc city to order my cafe seat.

Now I need to get in the garage and put some knee dents in my tank I will post pics later. Hopefully I get my stuff soon so I can get her running and cruz her around town. I see mostly new street bikes and just want to see what kinda reaction I get when riding this in town.

You're putting your own knee dents in the tank?! I guess I missed that FAQ...where did you learn how to do this!?

Yea I read the fag well just went at it. Know a little about bondu and sheet metal since I have shaved a lot of door handles and tailgates on custom trucks. Its coming out nice. I'm not home so ill post pics when I get home.

Well got some work done on the tank. got them where I want them Will have to hit a couple high spots and then hit it with the bondo when I get time to go get some.

for my first atemp It didn't turn out to bad. will just see how it looks after I bondo it.

yea its the bikes name. figured it needed an old style name like sue since well the bike is old. but as for the ouch writing their is a dent in the tank their and when I used to bondo dents I would mark them all before hand so I knew where they where at. I hope my painter won't hate me when Im done with the tank.

well worked on it a little today cleaning up all the chrome. yesterday I guess my start stop switch cam in the mail but missed it because I had to sign for it and I was working and not home and the girlfriend said the post man never knocked on the door or anything and she was home and could have signed for it. So she said she would go to the post office to get it. going to be ordering my mac 4-1 hopefully soon just waiting on this guy to come see my parts bike and hopefully buy it. ill post pics later on today of the new fresh clean fender.

Yea it doesn't look to bad for my first attempt. I think next time ill weld some round stock onto the tank and beat inside the round stock so it wil come out cleaner theirs a few low spots where I didn't want them.

Also today I got the girlfriend going to the post office for me to pick up my start stop switch since I wasn't home to sign for it. And then going to modify a stock front fender I got laying round too

Also got a question. Going to be running pods on the bike would it matter if I got a rebuild kit from a 550k? Mines an F and didn't know if the jetting would be an issue and also are the gaskets o-ringd the same? Found a kit to do all 4 carbs for 69.99 but its for a k model. Want to make sure before I buy it.

There is a difference between the K and F carbs. I just ordered 4 F kits from Sirius Consolidated and they were completely different from the K's.

My 75 CB550K Carbs are 022A where I think the F are 069A...

ok cool thats what I needed to know. I also got my start stop switch in and it #$%*ing works. just had to go to radio shack and get a new push button switch and wire that in but it works. just waiting to get my carb kit and get my gas tank done. and this thing will be good to ride.

I REALLY like those knee dents. I wish I had found this thread BEFORE I finished my paint job :\ I'm VERY tempted to start over.

Yea I wish I would have done it differently. Like welded some round bar in the shape I wanted welded it on and then made the dent. Would have made it a lot cleaner and kept to the area I wanted it to be a lot better. Then when ur done just grind the round bar off.

Thanks for the tank idea. I haven't touched the tank yet, so I'll be going this route now. Looking forward to seeing the final product. Also, kudos on getting the girlfriend to help you out with the project. My wife still rolls her eyes when I say I'm working on the bike

Yea the girlfriend don't compalain to much. I know she would like if we spent time together but I just hand her the polish or tell her to hold the flashlight or something. Plush she knows I miss my show truck I spent all my time building and I like to work with my hands and build stuff. But yea post some pics of ur tank when u get done. Also am going to talk to this guy about building me a tank out of fiiberglass or carbon fiber here soon. He builds custom drag boats and is always down to try something new so wil see. Trying to swoop on a new tank here this weekend too if money works out so he can use it as a mold for a tank.

bummer for you man. keep looking... mine was sanding her tank this week and primed it. taking the bike apart for powdercoating.
now if i could get her to buy me the boat i want

well just bought a new tank and side covers from clevland today a few minutes ago. he is going to try to ship it out tonight or tomorrow. also looking for a carb rebuild kit for my F carbs but can't seem to find a decent price yet. so am playing the waiting game. Probly should have orderd a carb kit but you can't pass up a good price on a tank and side covers that comes your way. Well going to go clean the bike a bit today and get some of the oil mess off the frame from the PO. and then go to the local shop and see if they can do a head gasket change for me and tune the bike when I get her ready.

well not much done since Im waiting on my tank and side covers from clevland which should be here friday sometime. also doesn anyone know where I can get a carb rebuild kit for my f carbs? also need to know where I can get a throttle tube and cable online. checked the dealer and they said it would take a few weeks to get them. I will post some pics as soon as the tank and side covers get here.

Well got my tank and side covers from Clevland and man are they awesome. was going to strip the tank and everything but after looking at it im just going to leave it alone. The detail in the paint and everything is unreal. I mean ive painted cars before and some bike parts but no way could I have done a good job like on the tank. in the blue you can see some ghost style flowers in it. it also makes the bike look awesome. Thanks to clevland for the tank and side covers. Also thinks to all of you guys for the insperation and motivation to build this bike. Now on to the pics.

This build is coming along nice and can't wait to get her on the open road.
