For those looking for the correct "Phantom Black" 750F side panel paint, Motor Bike Paint located in the UK carries it. http://motorbikepaint.co.uk/  I can't vouch for the paint quality or service because I haven't personally tried it. This is probably a last resort option as shipping paint from the UK can be a problem. This is the reply I received about shipping paint to the US:

Hi John,

The difficulty we have is that as many of our paints are classed as dangerous goods, they have to be shipped by courier.........who charge a ridiculous amount to ship to the USA. However, if the paint you requrie is in small touch up quantities or is water based in formulation (we can check this for you once we know what colour you are after)...then we can use the regular post.

Perhaps if we know how much and what you need, we can see if we can help!

Many thanks,

Heidi

Filled my 78 750f with gas today. Got it legal and was off for a ride. I filled the tank and when its on the side stand it leaks out the overflow tube? I filled it close to the top but not to the brim. I wont fill it quite so full again. It took @ 10 miles to burn enough so it wont leak. It wasnt the floats. Is this a normal safety thing?

As I was reading your post I thought...floats. But you say it isn't the floats. Are you saying that you rode it 10 miles and then no longer had the leak? If that's the case it probably was the floats and the ride jostled them into place. If you still have the leak then possibly the float valve seats?

Here is another link were you can look up the parts and order.
Look under Honda 1977 , Cb 750F and it will start with # 210 then go to the page with parts for head. They aer # 8,9,10,11 and looks like you can order them.

It was running poor like three cylinders on the way back. Plugs looked good but lean. I think it put gas  into the carb into the air box? The hose it was coming from goes out on the right by the rear brake light adjuster to the ground. Its black not pink like the fuel over flow.  Not the four overflow tubes. Bigger. I need some beer for this one. Im sure the carbs are coming off again. I did have it on reserve the first few miles so maybe something washed off the inside of the tank. Into a carb.   The tank is spotless i thought . Ill look in with a lighter later ;D

Ok carbs off and back on airbox too. The jet in #1 wasnt screwed in. That problem solved I assume. The pink hose from the tank turns black and thats where the gas came from. When tipping the tank forward gas comes into the area under my gas door up from the overflow drain! I guess the over flow neck under the tank  has a crack. Ill have to run out this tank before attempting a fix.

Rolled it out of the garage today to let in soak in some sun before the snow. The last piece I need is a petcock, going to the salvage yard tomorrow to try and find something. Started once a few weeks ago and it sounded pretty good for a bike that has different bench tuned carbs, new unadjusted points plate and my custom wiring harness.

This was how my 750F2 looked after getting fed up with the Comstar spokes going rusty & the standard seat not looking right. The exhaust was a track outlet pipe from Harris Racing in the UK...but it was soooo loud.

This was how it looked after i'd done the repairs after i'd hit some spilt diesel, crunched the exhaust, damaged the tank & tail unit & bent the forks. This wouldn't be the last time I hit spilt fuel either.

This was the umpteenth version as I didn't use the bike over the Winter, so I had time to do the next list of mods to it, as can be seen...

Then there was this version with the modified brakes...

This was the final version before the big accident which wrote the bike off. It had a custom made 4.25x18 rear rim with a 160 Metzeler MEZ1 CompK tyre fitted, but only after i'd made a new torque arm for the rear disc & cut the chain gaurd for tyre clearance. The front wheel was a custom made 2.75x18 rim with a CompK Metzeler ME33 in the 110/70x18 size fitted. These tyres gave phenomenal traction, except when you hit a car head on down an unlit street...

I had this problem once... every time i turned gas leaked out... come to find out the gas cap wasn't screwed on all the way... not sure if this is your problem but its worth looking at the cap.... Cheaper than a tank!

I really dig those bars. Do you do a lot of distance riding with your bike? I like the look of those bars and was wondering how they are for comfort.

i started with drags, then went to clip ons then to clubmans, back to clipons and now i have the dragbars back on. They offer the most comfort but still kinda look the part. For comfort nothing beats stock and for looks im all about clipons so the drags are a happy compromise.

I understand that the rear master cylinder is one of those things that can keep us up at night. Mine was heavily rusted inside the rubber boot and the snap ring was already destroyed by the PO, after flushing with brake fluid, it began to leak like crazy. I was wondering around the junkyard yesterday looking for something that would work and I think I found it. This afternoon I'm getting in the shop to put it together and if it works I'll post some pics and as much info as I can.

Freaky1,
I had the same rusty problem with my rear master cylinder.  The piston was frozen up in it.  I found a master cylinder on e-bay from a 76 F but the fluid reservoir is formed onto the cylinder instead of separated by a hose and bolted to the frame the way the F2 is.  It fit on the bike so I got a rebuild kit and fixed it up a mounted it.

I see no reason this won't work, can anyone provide feedback on this?  Still a few weeks away from having my carbs back on so I haven't even filled the thing with fluid and bled the air out of the system.

I like it! Can we get some better pictures of your side covers. I was about to make some aluminum covers, but was going on imagination in terms of how they might look.

Yeah I second that, Alan F makes aluminum side covers and needed measurements for a F. I am going to do the measurements, but if you made yours made you could share your measurements with Alan F.

I'll take some better picks as soon as i get my bike back (it's in seattle.... a friend at twinline is doing my jetting on thier dino) .... as far as measurements go i didn't really measure anything.... i just made a cardboard template of what i wanted and cut it out of an aluminum sign blank.... then bent it on my vice and added some brackets that fit the top stock mount and a quick clip pin for the bottom mount.... drilled some holes and added a sticker...... ( no cover over the oil tank)
i tried to zoom in ... not much help though.

Fit is one issue which you've determined works. Next would be functionality. As long as the rear brake lever, etc properly pushes the piston and the master cylinder has pressure without leaking you've done good. The compression ratio for the brake fluid is a potential issue I would think so be careful initially. The 75/76 F uses a double piston caliper and will lock up the rear wheel in a heartbeat. The 77/78 F uses a single caliper piston probably due to that fact. One might surmise that the 75/76 could exert more force but that remains to be seen until you apply your brake.

Everything inside mine moved and until I flushed it good, it didn't leak. I found a set up off a '77 Yamaha XS500 that bolts right up and like your Halvin the reservoir is part of the master cylinder. I got it all cleaned up and put it on but the main spring was squished so it didn't work right. I think I got it working now, waiting for the paint to dry, put it back together and install, keeping my fingers crossed. ordered a rebuild kit from Old Bike Barn (desperate times call for desperate measures) for about $20, the local dealer here wanted almost $90 so if there ever was a time for OBB to come through, it's now. Yamaha also made the same design but the reservoir is in the front and that won't work for us "F"ers, I know there are at least two Yamaha's with the right ones that should work over at Steel's.
