Thanks Jerry.  The 9" measurement is at the bolt area (hence the bushings comment), correct?

Any idea what the measurement is between the inside faces of the swingarm at the location where it holds the axle?  I am expecting this to be somewhere around 9 and 3/4 inches.  My 75/76 F axle is about 3/16" longer than my K axle.  I want to confirm the swingarm is also wider where it holds the axle.

Thanks again,
Aaron

(edited to correct "axle" spellings!!  I have a German friend named Axel, and it's really messed up my spelling....)

The 9" is at the bolt from outside bushing edge to outside bushing edge.

Not exactly sure what you're asking but I just measured my spare frame. The opening for the swing arm is 9 5/16". I'll be out in the garage playing after I get off here and can insert the swingarm and check that 5/16" clearance?? Get back later.

Are you looking for the inside width of the swingarm where the rear wheel axle passes through?
Measures approximately 10 inches on my spare NOS swingarm.

I missed this thread.  Just wanted to add my f1 to the group.  I've posted this in a couple other threads but it's the nicest pic of my 750 so far.

Yup, that's the one I'm looking for.  Little larger than I thought (by about a quarter inch), but probably workable.  Thanks!

BEAUTIFUL F1 Chuck!!  Wish I could find a stock muffler for mine!

Thanks, it's got age marks but so do I ;). I didn't realize that the stock muffler was so hard to find but someone else asked me if I wanted to part with it.  I was thinking of changing it but the bike runs great (stock intake & exhaust).

Regarding the exhaust - its hard to find a long muffler replacement.  Everything out there is much shorter.  I personally think the "F" looks better with the longer exhaust, not so much the "K," but the "F" specifically and there just hard to find with that 2 inch opening.

The muffler on my 78f was rusty on the end so I bobbed it and made a new baffle. Turned out pretty good.

I have 3 or 4 quarter size holes or larger back at the front end of the muffler, closest to the collector.  Originally I was thinking I could take it to a muffler shop and have it repaired but I think that would be a BIG job, grinding down the welds, re-chroming, etc.  I purchase a replacement megaphone from Don here on the forum that is from a truck muffler, flared end and a baffle he installed, stainless, tab for the stock mount, looks real good, just not LONG like the stocker.

I wish I knew as she is mostly in pieces at the moment.  I am just getting the engine back together after a cylinder hone and port job.

Don has road tested it both with the baffles and a 2nd option with less back pressure he offers.  The muffler looks good and as mentioned is stainless.

This is what I've been considering as an alternative to the stock muffler:
http://www.coneeng.com/pdf/motorcycle/MC%20finsihed%20Mufflers%20PDF.pdf

They sell everything one would need to make a longer, stock style too.

Here is Don's thread http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?topic=61446.0

Here are some pictures:
 Stock Muffler & Don's in a box

Measurements of Stock Muffler

Don's Muffler, Tab & Clamp

Don's Insert

Unless I am missing something I am not seeing but maybe one choice on the link you included that would work?  We need like a 2" & 7/8" or 3/4" inlet and the stock muffler is over 30" long.

Don's includes a nice stainless clamp and he has welded on a tab at the correct location.

G'Day Jerry, I installed mine on my K1, but with the same throttle assembly as you've got on your bike, and the stock cables worked fine.I've seen a post from someone else saying that the cables need to be modified to fit, but that wasn't my experience, then I realised that his bike was an F2, with different throttle assembly and cables than ours. I'd just about bet that your OEM K1-F1 throttle cables will work fine without any mods. Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

On an F how far can you go on main gas before hitting reserve? I got 158 miles today and started to doubt my reserve valve working properly. I stopped and filled it up 3.9 gallons approx 40 mpg. I know they can do better but it's way better than the 93 miles it used to go.

Don,

That's probably average IMO. If I'm not in the throttle too much and highway cruising I was getting 45mpg with the 812. Probably close to 150+ usually before reserve most of the time. Book (Honda Service Manual) says tank is 4.3 with 1.3 reserve but it says the 77 is 4.8 with 1.2 reserve. I tend to believe the 77 numbers because I was thinking it is 5 gallons.

OK thanks, it bogged a little at 150 and I switched back and forth between main and reserve with no result. Maybe some moisture, it is Hot and Huuumid here. I put  a new fuel screen on the petcock  last summer after Topeka and before Chicago. I didn't realize how rich it was running until after I fixed the floats. it's surprising how many things a big dumb PO can find to mess up.

A quick story. I met my brother at our favorite breakfast spot and parked my Honda out front. I was seated and the counter after a few minutes a car left and then you could see my bike out front. There was a couple seated at a table near the door, I hadn't noticed but the man went out to look at my 76F. When the waitress pointed at him, I noticed his wife was smiling and looking out the window. I remarked he must have had a bike like that one. she said no, not like it. He owned that bike for 25 years. When he came in he told how they bought it in 1980 and rode it all over Colorado. They got a scare and she stopped riding with him soon after it was parked for around 20 years. I now know every owner except the first one, we will be talking about that. He was happy to see it all shiney and running and of course, he offered to buy it back but I doubt he would like the price.

And no, he was not the big dumb PO. He was the good one.
