I bought these rings:

http://metric-cycle-parts.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=9

they fit perfectly on 78F.

I saw them but tough they fitted only on the 750k.
Thanks.

Well guys, here's an update on the 75 F I bought a few months back. Much, much better without the Vetter and King/Queen seat.

Still plenty more to do but it runs and can be ridden! Woohoo!

Hey guys. Replaced guides on my head. About to put on the valve springs/retainers. Checked the spring pressure and its only at 80. Dynoman told me around 85 is where I want to be

I noticed when i took it apart there was a shim on the bottom, i think to make more pressure?? should i put this back on or is there an alternative?

I would think the washer has to be there so the spring does to eat a hole in the Al head.

If there is no shim at all other than the one in the pic then yes put it back in with the springs. There is usually a thin shim even with stock springs to keep the steel spring from gouging into the aluminum head but judging from the thickness of the one in the pic it's probably there to boost spring pressure and or get spring at correct installed height. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

Recommendations for what fluids in the forks? ATF or fork oil?? What weight? Im in socal so it never gets cold lol

I used 20w fork oil. A little stiff but it feels good with the new Progressive springs. Depends on rider's weight also. I'm at 155.

There is already a thin shim, you cant see cause the spring is sitting on it. so it was doubled up on top of that.

My machine shop guy said that if anything we should put the shim under that whole assembly (spring/keeper underneath on the head directly) he was saying if we put it on top, the spring wont have anything to sit on and will be shifting in place rather than stable on the seat, at least thats what he says for cars.

so what are your guys' thoughts.

Under the spring on top of the thin shim. I don't know if retainer would fit properly if you were to put it between spring and retainer.

What do recommend for a muffler for a '78 750F.  I am trying to keep it looking stock.

Is that your bike in the picture or are you looking to duplicate the look of the stock exhaust in the picture?  The '77/'78F exhaust to come up on eBay from time-to-time, the '75/'76 are a little harder to come by.

Here is an example from eBay, listed as a '75, but looks like a '77/'78 muffler to me http://www.ebay.com/itm/1975-Honda-CB750-CB-750-CB-750-Super-Sport-114-exhaust-pipes-/321020643739?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item4abe52499b&vxp=mtr

its certainly not a 75 or 76 muffler/ header
