I looked up Stone. Looks like a good movie, but I can't get it on Netflix. Not even a DVD to send to the house.

The wife got some good laughs when I read the overview of the movie to her. I did watch The World's Fastest Indian with Anthony Hopkins. It's a real good story. I've been thinking about it a lot since I'm thinking of shipping my bike. I don't think I'll be stopping at the salt flats on my way though. Well, it would be fun...

Anybody got a picture of a 76 F petcock? Mine exits 45deg. towards rear of bike. I am having clearance issues with fuel line at petcock and choke arm.

Ha ha, buuurn! She wouldn't fill out the gold spandex near as well as that girl does, but I may be able to talk her into putting it on so she can ride on Goldie.

Just for that comment I should get you and I both gold spandex suits so we could ride two-up on Goldie.

I think those glasses she has may work as goggles too.

Here is my '75F petcock in really bad condition:

I purchased a '78F tank along with the newer style petcock. Old petcock (75/76 I believe) on right and newer style (77/78) on the left

Thanks alot, that makes sense. Mine came from a 78 Hondamatic and exits parallel to the length of tank.

I do believe the 75/76 F petcock is still available from Honda whereas the 77/78 are not.

No. Changed to 5/8" in 77 from 3/4" prior.
Different in-tank filter, too.

So since I am running a 77/78F tank on a 76F with stock carbs, I need a 5/8 petcock that doesnt exit parallel to tank (towards rear) due to choke arm clearance issues. Any suggestions?

There are other bikes that run the same size. I think maybe the 77/78 550. not sure where the connection is though. Also heard that maybe some of the smaller bikes ran them but cant remember which. time to start searching.

You could probably install a Pingel tap (petcock, whatever) if they do an adapter, I'm surprised to see that folks are saying they're not metric threads though, I would have assumed that they'd be metric, seeing that every other thread on the bike is, I'll have to go measure them and see if that's right. So Im currently getting ready to rebuild a '78 750F and have done a couple compression checks and now im wondering what you guys think.

I did the first two right after I got the bike in the garage and got these results:

#1 #2 #3 #4
110 100 85 85 (psi. typical)
Then added some oil to the cylinders
#1 #2 #3 #4
150 145 150 145 (psi. typical)

I then added a little seafoam to each cylinder and let it sit for a couple days and then turned the engine over a bit to get out what was in there and did a compression check again and here's what I got:

#1 #2 #3 #4
120 120 118 115 psi (typical)

They are all within 10% of each other now, but is this high enough?

Yes, it will run fine, mechanically speaking. Still need spark and air/fuel to complete the equation, though.

Compression testers vary due to their individual volume added (it's in the FAQ). You won't get book values unless you use the same tester design as what the book used.

TT, thanks. I'm just trying to see if the engine is good at this point. I've got carb kits (gaskets and needle valves) on the way. So that the next step now knowing that I have good compression.

Over on the Naked Goldwing Forum they talk about disassembling the carbs and boiling them in disstilled water to clean them rather than carb dip chemical. On my 78 K I did the chemical dip, but the can of that stuff is in my dad's garage 4 hours away, so I was thinking of giving this a try.
Anyone have any experience on this?

I am standing here with a can of carb dip ready to take the plunge! Here is my question, and I tried searching but didn't get any clear answer. Is there a special way to remove my push in jets from my '77 F carbs? You'll notice I didn't say easy, I'm not that stupid.

I've removed all the little rubber bits, except for the ones under the jets, might I have any issue with these after dipping? The instructions on the can say no rubber parts and yes I even got the ones from the connecting shaft hole and the little felt bit from the choke shaft hole.

The best way I have found is to get some wire cutters (medium to heavy duty). Lightly clamp them onto the bottom of the pilot jet. Just enough to grip. Gently pry the jet up using the plier handles as leverage against the carb body.

I used the tool below to pull them out. Leaves no marks, don't need to twist.
Other say plier with leather pads work, too.
