Yeah, don't make 'em like those "Maier" aftermarket sidecovers, I've got a set here somewhere that came with some other parts I bought, and they really look like schidt. Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

I was talking to a guy I know who was checking out a 1971 CB750P (cop bike) and guess what? It had aluminum side covers! If I was there, I'd have offered the seller a pair of "genuine" sideys for a swap! Cheers, Terry. ;D

Not really. I'm still trying to get the money to start it up. The way things are going with this economy it will be a while.
I have some other ideas for the old honda's, but that too will be a while later.   :(

for the insert why not do a Zeus fastener type mechanism . something that fits in the slit sideways and then you turn it one way and it fit tight. they won't fall off and you won't have to find a wrench if your stuck on the side of the road.
Keep it shinny side up.

@BLUE71TURBO, if you haven't thought of this already...perhaps the folks that chimed in with "put me down for a pair" could help you seed the project by providing a partial deposit on their order?

My bike's PO put on a cheezy plastic side cover and it screws on from the front. The screw fastens to a threaded part that inserts in the hole where the tang went. The treaded part is made much like a the type of dry wall anchor that pushes through the hole, but when tightened, the part inside the wall is forced to collapse holding the fastener in place. It must be an off the shelf item. One good feature is once tightened, stays in the same place so the screw hole in the cover is always aligned. Could be a solution here!
Sounds like they use a wellnut - many late model sport bikes use them to mount the bodywork & windscreens.  Likely Maier parts...

Just FYI... A set sold on eBay last week for $107. Another set, painted with a matching tank, sold about a month ago for $199 (if I remember correctly..).  They still come up occasionally.  RR

I just put a pair of MPD CB750 sidecovers on ebay if anyone is interested. I never saw another pair in person and curiosity brought me here.  You can see them at:

So just seen this thread, what is the progress on making cast aluminium side covers then? Sand cast motors deserve sand cast side covers too..
