primary sprocket ?'s
« on: July 18, 2009, 11:16:24 AM »
Can someone take a look at the photo from my primary sprocket and tell me if this look like someone just bolted a washer to hold sprocket on to shaft?  Seems like a jury rigged diasaster waiting to happen?  76 CB750F.

I've got the same bike, and mine doesn't look like that.  Seems like that allen bolt could shake out pretty easy.  My vote would be replace it.

That type fastening is used on 77/78
On yours incorrect, order the stock lockplate and 2,  6mm bolts.

This will put the sprocket back in alignment, it is now about 3 or 4mm too far out. You can see this by the wear on the sprocket.

Thanks for the response.  Thought it did not look right and the allen bolt would back itself out of the threads.

I did not say the allen would not work, it likely will, but you have to use a shim.. the stock method IMO though is more reliable.
If however your countershaft does NOT HAVE THE GROOVE for a lockplate, then you likely have a77/78 engine or shaft in there.
IF that is the case, move out the rear sprocket.

I believe I might have a 77/78 motor?  Here is a photo with the bolt and washer removed.  On the parts fiche 76 sprocket has the two bolt holes for mounting the lock plate as does the sprocket on my bike.  However, 77/78 does show on the fiche a sprocket with no bolt holes for the plate and only a center bolt and washer.

If it is an early style the sprocket will push towards engine (exposing groove for the plate), if not it is late style, Then bolt and washer is correct, cept I think they used a regular bolt.
