SOHC-powered "Reverse Trike"?
« on: February 14, 2010, 08:11:58 AM »
Has anyone on the forum used an SOHC four to power a three-wheeler "reverse trike" (JZA Morgan replica, etc).  I'm seriously considering turning a CB550 by ninety degrees and connecting the output shaft to a CX500/GL1000 rear drive via a drive shaft.

Here's a pic of a JZA with Guzzi power.  Honda CX500 V-twins are also very typical in these, but a longitudinal SOHC four would be cool and different.

I built one with a CB360
--steering by tiller
--lots of chain with a jackshaft halfway back
Rides: 75 CB750F, 48 Indian Chief, 67 Triumph TR6, 63Honda CA95
          83 XL600R in CB360 Frame
          3-wheel electric tilting cycle

I would think you would have over heating problems with the engine sitting with only one cylinder directly in the air flow. The engine would be on the small side for power also. If you have your heart set on the 550 place it transverse, just like on the bike. The ideal motor would be water cooled like a gold wing.
