Operation Valkyrie
« on: July 20, 2009, 08:12:42 PM »
I just watched this film for the first time.  At the end of the film I realize that the last assassination attempt (the one the film is based on) took place on July 20th.  Just thought it was random that I happen to rent it on July 20th.

Perhaps you tried to kill Hitler in a previous life?  ;)

I Rented....

.... the DVD.

Having read William L. Shirer's 1,600 page book, The Rise and Fall of The Third Reich and William Manchester's The Arms of Krupp, a short 1,060 page book ;), I was rather surprised how close they kept the movie to the historical accounts I have read.

Overall, I think they did a very good job with the movie.  It is difficult to keep suspense high, when the people watching the movie know what the outcome will be.

Good grief, the first scene where you get a straight on look at Hitler sitting down at a table.... it was down right spooky to me.  The actor looked just like Hitiler.... :o

I think they did a good job with the historical aspect, as well.

Of course there are always going to be edits to facts (combining two people into one was the biggest claim in this case), but overall they followed the history very well.
