So, I pony up US$41.54 x 2, plus shipping, for Maier side covers for my cb750F, '76. One of the old ones is cracked beyond recognition, the other was either lost or stolen (I was convinced of stolen as soon as I figured out what they cost).
That was about a year ago, and I didn't get around to putting them on the bike 'till last night. The left one went on like butter - the tabs were the perfect distance apart and everything. The right one is entirely the wrong size. The shape looks good - it's
trying to be a reproduction side cover for my bike - but there's just no way it'll fit. The three tabs that are supposed to be drilled to fit the mounting screws are about 1/2" too far apart from each-other. This thing just won't fit on the bike.
This morning, I call Maier in Grass Valley California and speak with a nice enough lady. I tell her about my problem.
"Oh. Ok. would you like to send it back?"
Well, yes, I would, but I already painted it, so they won't take it back, which would be understandable if this was a working part. Now, here's the part that really gets me.
I'm not the first one to have complained about this! I got the impression as soon as I told her the model number that she had heard this one before. I even asked her point blank if I was the first one to complain.
"Honestly, no."
I was hoping to hear that they had recognized the error, done a recall or re-issued a new model RHS cover that fit the bike. Much to my dismay,
you can still buy the non-fitting part from maier's website.SO: Maier = thumbs down.
