K7 Keihin carbs on K5?
« on: November 18, 2012, 08:27:14 PM »
The only set of carbs I have are the K7 Keihins, which people seem to not like very much. Am I fine to use them with my K5?

Also, would it be beneficial to use K7 head, valves, and cam on a K5? Thanks!

I've thought about trying 'em for the accelerator pump advantage but I don't think the needles are adjustable on those, which might make them difficult to tune for a non-stock combination.  I don't think there is any advantage to using the cylinder heads or cams either.
If it works good, it looks good...

77 PD41 carbs have the adjustable needles, the 78 PD42 have the non adjustable needles. Which means you need to shim them instead, I know you'll need different intake boots as the round top carbs and PD's use different carb to motor boots.

I did a dry fit with the 77 boots and they seemed like they'll fit. I need to boil them and try again. These, I believe, do not have the accelerator pump. Not %100 sure though.

If they are 77 they have the pump. It will be on the # 2 carb look at the bowl it will look different. You might be able to see it a little on this pick. 77-78 look alike on the outside. They are some times called keyhole tops.

Ah, I wondered what exactly that was. The screws were too rusty for me to take the top off of that part during inspection.

Bollingboll - that's an interesting rack you have for your carbs. Any specific use for it?

I find it easy to hold them in the angle I need when checking floats and a few other things. Just frees up the hands. I just C-clamp it to the bench when I need it. Just old scrap 2x4s the rack pivots then I lock it down
