mags wont stop oxidizing

im cleaning up this old thing and the mags keep getting a white coat  of powder off of em what can i use to keep em looking good? is there a polish or clear coat i can use?

    Blasting them and reshooting them with a clear coat's a good idea. You'll get oxidation on any bare aluminum .  If you don't want to clear coat you gotta keep polishing .

Clearcoating? What a pain to prep and probably end up peeling. Just shoot 'em w/ S-100 once in a while, scrub w/ scotchbrite, wipe down w/ wd40 when dry.

Try a little Turtle Wax on a small area for a test-Stuff is GREAT

i used wenol polish and then the protectant when i had drag-lites on the mustang. it keeps bare aluminum looking nice alot longer.

I've heard of something called ZOOP Seal for aluminum, not sure if it works on magnesium, and you can get this stuff from places like Summit Racing or JEGS.  On the down side, the stuff is expensive  :o  :o

A real good etching w/ hydroflouric acid will brighten them up like nobodys business. Mother Chrome Wire Wheel Cleaner (nasty stuff- wear hd rubber gloves, goggles and work UPWIND)

If they are magnesium you need to put a sealer of some kind on them. a friend had some real mags polished and they were tarnished before he got home. I like the natural grey and just use a little wd40 on some scotchbrite to remove the white fuzzy stuff.

how can i tell if they are magnesium or aluminum? there from a yamaha maxim 81

Yams were aluminum. Real magnesium wheels are pretty rare. And flammable.
