Alternator cover...I'm stumped
« on: November 19, 2005, 08:52:30 PM »
The 'Honda' plate on my alternator cover is trashed and starting to fall off.  I bought another on e-bay for cheap.  How the heck does it come off?  It almost looks pressed into place.  I can't even figure it out from the spare.

On the back of the badge should be three pins which push into what honda call a "j" type fixing that is inside a blind hole in the generator cover. You need to get a thin, but strong, blade in between the badge and casing and gently twist. Much like the tank badges. DONT LOOSE THE FIXINGS i believe they are now obsoleted.
Semi Geriatric ex-Honda mechanic and MOT tester (UK version of annual inspection). Garage full of "projects" mostly 500/4 from pre 73 (no road tax in UK).

Remember "Its always in the last place you look" COURSE IT IS YOU STOP LOOKIN THEN!

Ah-ha! Thanks, I got it off.  On the good one (spare), two of the three 'j' fittings came out with it, I have to dig out the third.  On the crappy one (bike), one cover tab was broken and jammed in the hole, and the other two 'j' fittings are stuck in the cover.  Another winter project.

I took a picture that shows two of the tabs, on the right with the 'j' fitting, and on the left without.

Thanks.
