man, i have a lot to learn about the amish. all kidding aside i do respect their way of life (as mentioned before, so too the shakers) and it's intriguing, the move to hawaii. one of the islands is privately owned (by a scottish family!) and closed to outsiders. if he could get permission that might be an ideal place to move as it's away from the superficial touristy noise but close enough (?) to other islands to make the arrangement make sense. the island is having financial hardship last time i heard and had been considering going against their long held tradition of a closed border. too bad as the place is one of the few well preserved islands left. maybe the amish guy's arrival/business would be welcomed?

just a thought.

That thing is the bane of my life....

I field hundreds of calls a day for that stupid piece of crap. When I say it's basically a box built around a cheap dept. store heater they look like deer.

Then I say you can buy a better heater at our local 'Menard's' 'Home Depot' etc.... They get all pissed and want to see an example of the amish heater.

Well, this isn't furniture, but seems to be as good a place as any to post it.  The one picture is a shot of the shank, which is 5 layers of 1/4" laminated together.  It is all made of 1/4" Okumme Mahogany marine plywood, glued with TiteBond III and a poly finish.

And the paddle is for this project that I am helping with at The Alexandria Seaport Foundation.  One more plank(bottom right) and it gets to be right side up.
