bet it's loud as hell
Of all God's creatures there is only one that cannot be made the slave of the lash. That one is the cat. If man could be crossed with the cat it would improve man, but it would deteriorate the cat.

Wow, that's odd looking... I like it!  ;D
If I forgot to state it in my post, I'm probably talking about a 1976 CB550K...

How does it ride? Looks like it would be scary as hell flying down the road.

Nice work!  Question for you, did you paint the tank and fender yourself?  If so, what's your process?  We painted my CB350 tank, and the clear coat is still pretty soft, and if a little fuel gets spilt on the tank, it leaves marks on the clear coat.

We let it "flash dry" between paint coats, and there was about 4 coats of paint, a final wet-sand of paint coat, to get rid of "orange" peel look.

2-3 coats of clear, which we let dry between coats.

it's been a couple of weeks now, and we aren't too happy with the finish.  We are looking for that mirror like finish, and a durable clear coat.

We used a compressor with paint gun, and good quality automotive paint and clear coat.

The only thing I can think of is that my compressor didn't have an inline filter to filter out moisture.  I did empty the tank before, but maybe some of that moisture made it's way through the line and into the gun and paint.

Any help would be appreciated!

sory for the delay in replying...my hard drive failed...

sandog,  when you hit a few "studder" bumps going around 50-60 kms it is scary as hell!  i had it going 100kms the other day and it really wasnt all that bad.  surprisingly the seat springs absorb a lot of the impacts!  the thing tracks like you wouldn't believe.  the 6 inches i added to the rear makes for larger radii but all in all not too bad

r6100mph,  my rule of thump for paint...many light coats!  also, i use tremclad (rustoleum) for everything!  i know its not professional but its cheap as hell and looks awesome when done right.  i sprayed the tank twice then wet-sanded with 400, sprayed then sanded with 600, then with 800, then 1000.  then i clear-coated with tremclad clear and wet-sanded with 2000 grit.  then shot one more with clear.  no orange peal at all.  in fact i didn't get any throughout the procedure.  thinner coats!!!  finally i bought a dollar store handkercheif to put on the tank while fueling so i don't get any on the paint. i dont want to find out if it will eat the paint or not.  i am assuming it will.  also, the fender is black plastic removed from the front of a vulcan 800.  no paint necessary.

alan f, the engine is a stock honda cm400 twin.  its sweeeet hahaha!

Awesome, I've got a CM400 project going, it'll have a CB400T engine with the kickstart and that's about all I'm sure of except for the bridgestone spitfires that were recomended in another thread.  It's probably not going to be a bobber though.
