DVD's to hard drive
« on: July 26, 2009, 06:04:39 AM »
I was wondering if anyone knew of a way to convert DVD's to a file format to watch on my laptop? I don't know if there are programs that can encrypt the file that only I can watch on my laptop.

A little more detail would be helpful-  windows, mac, linux?  I assume you're looking to copy to the drive of a windows machine?

Windows vista. Yes, record a DVD onto my computer and turn it into a video file. I don't know if it is illegal for my viewing but I know it is if I start sharing it with others.

I own a bunch of movies and I'm looking to be on the road soon. It would just be great if I could stick them all on my computer or external hard drive and not have to lug all my movies around.

windows media player should do the trick for you.
Of all God's creatures there is only one that cannot be made the slave of the lash. That one is the cat. If man could be crossed with the cat it would improve man, but it would deteriorate the cat.

go to this site and download this soft ware. (or any other "dvd ripping" software that is supported by Vista)
it allows you to "rip" any dvd onto your hard drive.
there should be online tutorials on how to get the best quality and settings
good luck!

Once you get it on the drive, vlc should work for watching.
