Source for K0 seat cover and strap
« on: July 27, 2009, 07:23:06 PM »
Can anyone recommend a good source for a seat cover for a CB750 K0? I have the pan and foam but the original cover is toast. I have a printout of an ebay seller called gumtwo32 that does reproduction covers, anyone used his?
Thanks,
Cliff.

Yamaiya should have one but it won't be cheap.

Dukiedook, there's NOTHING cheap when doing a K0! ;D

AshimotoK0, thanks for that. I have a complete original K0 seat but the cover is shot and the pan cracked. I've removed the cover and very carefully removed the foam which seems in good shape. I'll have a local upholstery shop that rebuilt an ST1100 seat for me install the cover and chrome strips. Do you have a source for the strip mounts, they look like a T and slip into a slot on the strips. I haven't checked my Honda dealer though.
Cheers,
Cliff.

Hi - Sorry - I had to buy a new K1 in order to get the metal strips - they do survive quite well though as I think they are made of stainless steel (unlike the K2 and later nasty plastic strip thing) so you may find decent used on Ebay. I don't think Yamiya sell them separtaely

Don't know if you are interested but I did list a seat cover for the k0 on Ebay and thinking of relisting.

It looks exactly the same as this one but is unused NOS

AhimotoK0,
Did your seat cover come with a strap? I have one but it's in sad shape. I've just sent an email to the fellow tjjkc recommended so we'll see what he has to say. K0's are fun, eh?
Thanks,
Cliff.

Sorry - no strap - Again I had to obtain one with its clips from a new K1 seat. To be fair I got the K1 seat for 150GBP from David Silver in the UK and I sold the K1 cover and foam for 60GBP so for 90GBP I got a new base, strap, clips, chromed screws and the all importants 3 part stainless steel trim and clips. That was late December last year but now the K1 seat price from DSS  has rocketed in price

AshimotoK0,
Thanks, but gumtwo just responded to my email and his are $59.95 plus $9.95 for shipping (US). Since he's in Alberta he's almost a neighbour so I'll order from him. Several people on the forum have said they are happy with his product. The beauty of doing these old bikes in a way is that in many cases there's so few around only the builders know they are not quite "correct", especially the K0's. Of course it still drives us crazy.

Thanks for this thread.  I think I'll be ordering from here for a complete seat (for my K6): http://www.hondanuts.com/cb750.html  I found this chasing down one of the above-mentioned threads.  $225 for a complete (I think... I'm checking) seat.  They do have a K0-K1 version (probably not duck tail) for $220.

I'll have a local upholstery shop that rebuilt an ST1100 seat for me install the cover and chrome strips.
How do you like your ST1100? - my buddy is gonna be hosting an "ST" party in NW Indiana in September I think.  I hear red ones calling out to me....

GammaFlat, I bought a new, in the box, K1 seat from them. I called them to be sure it was complete, the lady put the phone down, opened the box, unwrapped the seat and said "ask your questions". It was a complete seat. They are very good to deal with.
We enjoyed the ST1100, it was a 2002, and dressed it up with a Laminar Lip windshield, heated grips, Givi trunk with extra lights and more. However, it had a knock in the engine I could feel in the handle bars when it got up to running temperature. Many ST owners said to get the carbs balanced which I did but it still knocked. This is VERY unusual for the ST1100. The shop mechanics traced to a (possibly) bad rod bearing on number 1 piston. They said they could tear it down and put it back together and it may still do it. It turned out the previous owner complained about it too and they gave him and me "they all do it" run around. I was much more persistant, complaining for over a year and ending up in a very bad shouting match with one of the shop owners. But, after looking at my share of the fix at $1000 or more I traded it in a 2007 Goldwing which I'm more than pleased with because most of my riding is 2 up. The ST was a great bike, quick, handled well, needed a bit of tailoring for my size and looked great. I just couldn't handle the knocking, you could hear it from a long ways away. The new owner doesn't appear to care about it. Am I anal, oh yeah!
You'll enjoy the ST if you go for it. If you're interested, the shop foreman found the knock by letting the bike warm up and while the bike was running removing one spark plug cap at a time and then replacing that one and going to the next one.. No change in engine noise until he got to number 1 and it really got loud. He said it more than likely a bad rod bearing. As I said this is very unusual for this bike to have this kind of problem.
An excellent place to do some research/lurking is here http://www.st-owners.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=73  And, they look great in red or burgundy!
Cheers,
Cliff.
