this is the naked carb taken down to the smallest componets i can do. 



im not a mechanic, but im learning so much from this bike its crazy...  just the carb system alone is very complicated.. cant wait till i work on that engine next week lol

See the big post cast into the bottom of the carb?  Right next to it is a smaller brass post.  That's the pilot jet, which supplies most of the fuel need for the engine to idle.  It is alos the smallest fuel orifice in the carb and the most prone to clogging up when tainted fuel gets in the carb.

The jet is pressed into this carb.  It is a compression or interference fit.  The jet is grabbed onto with a pliers and yanked straight out.
I find it easier when using parallel jaw pliers. (see picture)

With the jet out, you can clean it properly, verify it is clear, and also clean the drilled passageways in the carb body as well, making sure all four exits/inlets are functioning as they must.

With this style carb, I believe it is the needle jet.
