I passed through San Francisco on a big trip and some locals pointed me towards Charlie's Place "A Haven For Old Honda's" for some new tires.  http://www.charlies-place.com/

Here are some pics I think you may like...  On the way out of town my chain snapped and punctured a hole in the engine case, spewing out oil.  Back to Charlie's where he patched it up with JB Weld.  Didn't leak at all for the next 3000 km's till we got home to Vancouver.

Very Cool looking place Don. Did you by chance check out any of the prices on those used bikes that were sitting around outside? Just curious as to what the market is like out there, seems like maybe higher than the rust belt states.Glad he patched you up. Take care

Those bikes where all pretty run down, there's a sign that says "we do not sell motorcycles, parts, service, and repair only" that you can see in this picture.  Not sure if those are all customers bikes or what.  They may have a long waiting list.  Charlie was cool and since we where on a big adventure, he got me going in about a day.

Charlie's is all right. He certainly knows his stuff, and his prices are pretty good. He and his help can be a little cranky but I guess it goes with the territory. Those are all customer bikes out front -- he's got a pretty good backup of work most of the time.

That looks like my dream world right there to work in.
These bikes dont die, they hibernate until the right person wakes them up again.

That's in my neighborhood!  I often go to Charlie's when I find that I need a cable, battery, wire connectors, or whatever random part I don't want to deal with the internets for.  I think they have a reputation for being cranky because for every immaculate, completely stock bike they get to restore or maintain, they have to deal with ten raggedy frankenstein road warriors worked on by whoever.

I like a place where you can walk in and ask for a part and the guy goes in back and gets it without a computer and 20 questions.

We got no attitude whatsoever.  Charlie and Rab where super friendly.  On the road to Tahoe later we where approached by someone who noticed the bike and the Charlie's t-shirt I bought.  His name was Ed and he used to work there as well.  All great guys.  It was pretty great talking to all these CB750 enthusiasts throughout the country. Great friendly country you have down there, can't wait to go back!

I might as well plug another nice guy, Daves Cycle Transport, in case you break down in San Francisco. 425-834-3020.  I wonder if you locals have any stories about him?

he doesn't seem like the chorus type (bumper sticker) look like he's taking good care of the bike.
glad to see you got back on the road

Bummer about the hole in the case, but long after it is fixed you'll have these awesome stories to tell! Neat story!
