THE BIG BORE SOHC HONDA LIVES.

With the renewed interest in restoring and modifying the original superbike, the Honda 750 sohc, APE has re-introduced the 1000cc big bore kit. These kits have not been produced for more than twenty years.

These older Hondas have been restricted to 836cc for many years because of the lack of affordable aftermarket connecting rods.  Having solved that issue, cbrzone.com, APE's all Honda site brings these kits back

They come with sleeves, forged pistons with the latest ring packs, head and base gasket, pins, etc. The special sleeves are designed for use in stock blocks without breaking through into the air passages and causing oil leaks.

The domes are the same as the current 836s, so there is no cylinder head modifications required to install.

For more information, call APE at 661-256-7309, or visit the internets top Honda race parts site at

Blatant pitch... Leakdown Tester
« Reply #1 on: November 22, 2009, 11:44:28 PM »

The Racetoolz dual gauge leakdown tester is a precision tool for measuring the amount of cylinder leakage in an engine. It will work on any internal combustion automotive or motorcycle engine with threaded spark plugs.

The tester requires an external air supply of at least 100 psi.

Simple to use. The adaptor hose screws into the spark plug hole and air supply is connected to the tool. The regulator is adjusted so the left gauge reads 100 psi. Any leakage is shown on the right gauge. If the right gauge reads 90 psi, that cylinder has 10% leakdown.

In most cases, the tester can pinpoint the leakage help diagnosis damage before the motor is disassembled. For instance, if leakdown shows on the gauge, listening at the exhaust outlet may product the sound of escaping air. This would indicate leaking exhaust valve/s. In the air intake, intake valves. Oil fill, leaking rings, etc.

Each leakdown tester comes with the precision measuring tool and one spark plug adaptor hose. Extra adaptor hoses as well as an extension hose is available.

Kit Price, racer $112.00

LDT1000-10 Leakdown tester with 10 mm hose
LDT1000-12 Leakdown tester with 12 mm hose

My god.

That 1kcc kit is VERY tempting. Especially because I am rebuilding my engine next winter. And even though it's double the price of an 836cc why not?

Haha that has been my motto for this bike build. "It's expensive but why not?"

Hey there Big Jay. Just an observation but you gonna honor that $237.00 price tag you have on the site for the 1K kit ? If so I'll take two !

Might give that some adjusting before someone takes you seriously ! lol.

Busy  building a 750 sohc. The motor is in the stand. Just not to sure what to buy.. 836cc to 1k cc?  Need all the internals.. Does anyone have a list of parts thats needed? From A to Z. What would make a great race bike. Won't be used on the street.

Jay: Someone has approached me about possibly installing one of the APE 1000cc kits in his SOHC4.
Can you bone me up on the skinny I might need to know about this kit? I haven't done any that big since 1973 or '74, when extensive case mods were the norm of those days (R/C kits).
See SOHC4shop@gmail.com for info about the gadgets I make for these bikes.
