I like this mod   ;)     Hard to believe that was a drag bike because it looks like the most serious 'street fighter' kind of bike ever, to me. .  ..all sinister and industrial looking, especially with that front end!   :o

It looks mean and the modifications are cool, but I can't justify cutting up a Vincent black shadow. Just my opinion. I'm not saying that this bike was in stock form before it was modified or anything. I'm just sayin'... I love the black shadow.

It is cool, though.

Keep in mind though, that this is an original unrestored drag bike from 1954 - they just found it in Nevada where it had sat since the '50s. So they didn't just recently cut it up or anything, they modded it when Black Shadows were still available brand new!

But yeah, I hear you in that a Vincent in stock form is its own beauty, for sure.

Thos Vincents are AWESOME alright! Need to show those to my Dad. I KNOW he'd like to see those bikes. ;)   My Dad likes to tell about how he got the chace to ride a Black Shadow once. He said he could never figure out why the speedometer, on the Blck Shadow, was so large and mounted at that angle! Then he got that chance to ride that one! Now he knew! Within a couple of city blocks, he was up around 100mph and he was down on the gastank, with that speedometer right smack in front of him! :o ;) He also likes to tell how some of the local "know-it-alls" goaded the guy with the Black shadow, to enter some events at a local meet, cause they heard him say that it (the Vincent) was cutting out. What they DIDN"T know was, it was cutting out at about 120MPH! :D :D :D  That Vincent blew the wheels off of everything at that meet! Left them standing with their mouths hanging open w/ a "What Happened?" look on their faces! ;D

LOL.  .  . . kewl tale.   I just love the look of old Brit bikes and REALLY love the Vincents. Plus, there is the whole cool Hunter Thompson reference thing. Honestly, if money wasn't an issue and I could have ANY motorcycle (other than my beloved Honda, of course) it would have to be a Vincent. I dunno if I could even handle the monster but they are just works of art, all around.

That's why I love this photo shoot and why I had to share them here - it's very immersive with such large resolutions and great camera angles and an obvious appreciation of sexy metal. . .lol. For those who don't know who COOP (Chris Cooper) is, he's a pretty famous artist that does primarily hot rod culture stuff. He also dabbles a lot in photography doing pin-up shoots, cars, and motorcycles. He has several web sites and blogs on the internet.

Here is one of his more famous images:

Well, I STILL got into 'trouble' looking at the Vincent porn.  :P  My guy was griping just yesterday that I should be listing manuals and working on the business instead gazing at motorcycle stuff (and hanging at this forum. .LOL) while I was drooling at the Vincent pictures. Then again, he just doesn't understand being a gear head (especially the motorcycle thing) - he hardly even does anything on his own car and trucks!   ::)   However, once I told him the drag bike was a Black Shadow, he suddenly got all interested, being a big Hunter Thompson fan and wanting to know what one looked like. He didn't even know it was a real motorcycle. .  .LOL

They turn up fairly regularly in auctions over here. Guide prices are normally around the £35,000 mark but they tend to sell for much more.

You can buy a reproduction vincent engine from Godet in France or David Hailwood Restorations in the UK (Mike the Bike's son). I don't know what they sell the engine alone for but as a complete Egli Vincent they cost around £35,000.

I'd gladly sell both my CR750 and Black Bomber to get one of those Egli replicas they are beautiful. Incidentally the Black Lightning ridden by Rollie Free at Bonneville is allegedly owned by a Honda Bike shop owneer and vincent enthusiast in my home town. I talked to him about it once - he paid over £100,000 for it way back when....

Dunno if Terry in Oz surfs these parts of the forum but there's also the Irving vincents down under now and the reproductions they do are massive monster engines. I think one of them just won recently at Daytona didn't it - anyone know?

  • There aint no pickle like a super pickle...
A neighbor of mine when I was little had a Vincent...not sure what model I just remember my dad talking about it all the time lol. I was too young to remember seeing it...I just remember the story my dad told about it...

Neighbor gets vincent, it's his baby, gets divorced, wife gets the vincent in the divorce somehow, she brings it to the scrapyard and gives him the check for the amount she scrapped it for (weight in steel). Note to self, if I ever get married bike is staying in my name...insurance and everything...if I EVER piss my wife off that much i'm selling it to my sister lol.

Somehow I have a feeling that bike was never truly scrapped though unless the people that worked at the junk yard had NO idea about bikes...but even then the thing was immaculate (or so i'm told)
