Question about clutch
« on: July 30, 2009, 06:28:52 PM »
Got the bike in attached pic this weekend, for $250 - I'm really happy with the deal, the bike is really pretty clean but it hasn't been run in a number of years and I'm still figuring out what needs work at this point. Most of it is pretty standard - front brake seized, carbs full of crap etc. - I had an old inline-4 (KZ650) once before so I'm fairly used to working on those kind of things. My old bike never had any problems with the clutch though, so I'm on unfamiliar ground there. With this bike on the center stand, I can switch smoothly from neutral to first and back, but I can't get it to go into 2nd or anything above. Is that normal if the bike is not running, or am I looking at problems with this? Any suggestions where to start if I need to do clutch work?

rotate the back tire while trying to shift into other gears.

Aha, that did it - nice 'n' smooth all the way up to 5th. Thanks, razor! Now all I need to worry about is the carbs - oh yeah, and that brake ... and the electrics ...  ;)
