early 70's carbs on 78 750k... probs?
« on: August 01, 2009, 01:53:12 PM »
I recently found out the carbs on my 78 k are from a way earlier model. The bike was running super rich, and I had to get different cables to get the throttle to work. Was it running rich, possibly, because the carbs are earlier models with a more rich jetting? Should I be looking for carbs from my year? I know it is a pretty bonehead question... and I should just mess with the jetting to get it to run right, but I broke a tab off the float pivot thingy anyway, and no matter what have to replace one of them... I would just assume find a set off a 78 and clean, and sync them. Any suggestions?

Early model carbs worked real well, you also need early model manifolds and not sure about stock box we were usually using stacks or K&Ns.Your bike came with 26mm carbs, early ones 28mm.Bill
