Gentlemen, Just bought a 72 cb500 and would like to clean it up.  I have been doing research all over the net and need your input as what to do with the seat that needs proper recovering or maybe replacement. Thanx RRC

you could take the seat to the local upholstery shop and or hit up the fabric store you can get some fake leather and or the same stuff they wrap dirtbike seats in.
Keep it shinny side up.

hi,  do you want to recover with  stock style upholstery and foam, and is the foam in good shape? There are good companies out there who specialize in factory recovering but you might be able to get a reproduction covering too.

what are your intentions... oh and welcome!

Thanks for the greeting, the pipeing is the issue and I have found out it cannot be removed because of its union with the seat. So I guess I am looking for the best solution to bring it back to as stock as possible, If this is a new cover fine or a new seat either solution will work. You folks know these rides so I am hoping for the right info, Thanx RC

My seat isn't perfect either. But instead of looking to restaurate the original, I'm looking for an alternative. When -long ago - me and my girlfriend (350 four) went for a 6 weeks long trip through southern Europe, she had her seat covered with a nice fitting lambskin. All day long she was comfortable, where I was almost developing haemorrhoids because of the heat trapped between the vinyl (or whatever it is) and my bottoms. Or you can choose a modest panther- or pumaprint thing. I know, it's not original Honda, but done tastefully the result can look good. Some 'mods' use to have them on their Triumphs and BSA's. And wool both in warm and cold wheather is very pleasant to sit on. Much cheaper than having the original.

new?! well why didn't you say money was no object?  ;D

i have a seat supposedly from a 500 (year?) i was gonna chop for a cafe seat. besides not wanting a cafe seat anymore, the mounting is a tad different than my 74 550, and i figured the seat too nice to adapt the mounting changes, so it just sits. the seat isn't mint but i don't recall there being any rips in the material. i'll snap some pix.

but, if your seat is basically sound and with good foam, you can get good oem type covers, sometimes with the hardware bits too.

also, try these guys. http://www.crc2onlinecatalog.com/seat_covers.htm $65? check the review section on this forum as to whether these guys are good to deal with, or maybe someone can chime in, i've not personally dealt with them.

here's a place i had lined up to recover my seat as they seem like a good operation: http://www.sargentcycle.com/custserv.htm

otherwise, if you don't see what ya need used ya gotta be willing to wait.  ;D

Thank you both for the info, I called the first one listed and they didn't have one but to call back. My seat is an 8.5 out of 10 except for the chrome plastic  moulding which really sticks out [in a bad way] To be continued...........
