I'm making a seat (attempt 1.0 FAIL) Crap! (attempt 2.0)
« on: August 02, 2009, 11:50:05 AM »
getting started, I bent a piece of scrap diamond plate between the crack of my porch steps.
Then marked it with some frame measurements and cut.
made a pattern out of cardboard and paper taped em together on the aluminum thing.

here's the mockup of the cardboard form.

it's gonna be 1/2 in ribbed on the top panel and I'll make it fit over the aluminum with a bias taped opening instead of snaps.

I'm also thinking of dropping the center edge out to the bottom seam so my legs don't sit on an upper seam. just no diamonds
like so-

hopefully I can get to sewing it up before I go on a road trip next week

well I decided to make the seat base conform to frame more, after looking at what rat400f did. it seemed to make sense.
I trimmed a half inch off both sides of the far end at a taper for 6 inches, and drilled the bottom for some ventilation so the seat deflates faster when I sit.

everything I say is pure speculation and
I have no idea what I'm talking about  ._.

Yeah, cool man!
I've go some more ideas for mine too but I just need the time to work it out. I cut mine so the sides end at about the center of the frame rails. That way when I'm at a stop my legs only contact the round edge of the frame. With my current riding position the muscle of my thighs are the only part of me that makes contact so even though it looks uncomfortable it's actually very nice.

I road about 3 hours the other day with no complaints.

I did it for the same reason, round edges are much more comfy than the blade of an aluminum base.

if you burn your edges on the wire wheel it doesn't  wear a hole in your fabric, whatever it may be.

still needs to be trimmed to fit to the center of the rails and I think I'll make it hinge interestingly.
here's the mat I want to cut and double up for padding. it's very dense, and you cant even feel the floor when you stomp on it.

there's one on eby right now for 20 bucks shipped.  (my wife paid $50)

had an idea, I'm going to cut up my other tail that I made/modified and add it to the rear section of this seat, because it looks a little tank heavy.

Once upon a time, brian grew a donk.
But it just wasn't enough.
So he packed on goverment cheese until it was a donky-donk.
But it just wasn't enough either, so then he started harvesting lard from his dogs pregnant teets and injecting it into his own buttocks until it was...the buh-donky-donk.
Seriously. It's not tank heavy when he rides, i'm surprised he didn't put some sort of hoist for his enormous ass cheeks on the back of his bike.

Oh... I thought you said backside story.

But really, you should see the pics.

Hey, Industrial!  Sorry if this is off topic but what is your swingarm set up?  I have been looking to do the same thing and you're the first I've found that actually has DONE it.

Is it a cb500 swingarm...with any mods?

Great bike BTW...

if you have any doubts as to chopping 40-50 bucks worth of swing arm, PM me, i can help you with how i should have done it in some places.  like i shoulda just pushed the bearing all the way in, capped it off, then cut it, instead of beating it all up.

Hey IC, you could always go something like this XL250R from www.animalboat.com
it's kinda like a grab rail but it's a weld-in not a bolt-on, could probably make one from an actual grab rail and slug the joints before welding.   Food for thought.  Nice build.

your thought meals have been well placed.
That was an option I considered becausae of the chopped off rails in the back of mine.
I googled the honda ruckus, and liked the integrated grab rail. I would have to think of a way to make it useful (500 pound bike) ...I could say it's structural support I guess.
my one issue right now is the tail light turn signal setup. I want "integrated" and "small"
another ruckus dealie-
