cover badges 750 K4-K5
« on: December 13, 2005, 05:50:15 PM »
I just bought some covers off a guy last week, actually bought a bunch of stuff off him, a mint NOS seat, tank in fair condition, and L/R covers for a ridiculously cheap amount.  It was a local guy making a chopper out of his K5 750.  The tank and covers are painted that dark wine red color I assume it to be the Boss Maroon but according to the model guide here they didn't come out with that color in 75.

What I need to find out is about the cover badges.  both sides came with the orange diamond peice but only one had the 750 Four badge.  The thing is the 750 Four badge has the words 750 four on the rectangle like this: K6 badge.  The panels are debossed(not my pic) to accept, I think this kind of badge that is cut away from the rectangle: K1/K2 badge.   The bike barn sells these replicas for a gawd awful price and list the first as K6 and the other as K1/K2.

Surely the one with the rectangle isn't correct since the panel is debossed to accept the cutaway one right?

I assume I need the cutaway one but will it fit even if it's listed as K1/K2?

Couldn't I use a dremel and cut around the one with the rectangle to make it fit the debossed cover?

My 74 has the badges with the rectangle on it...and the previous owner thought that a screw through the center of each of the orange badges was the best way to secure them to the cover.

:D  It did the job I guess... If you were to remove the badge with the rectangle would your cover be debossed to accept the badge without the rectangle or is there a rectangular shape debossed in your cover for that badge?

I hope I'm not making mountain out of a molehill, basically I'm just trying to find out how mine ended up like this and if the cut away K1/K2 badge would fit this cover of mine.

What was the redline on a K5? From the photo in this auction, it appears to be 9500 or so. Is that correct?  ???
