Off to Deadwood 7 hours to go
« on: August 11, 2009, 10:56:40 PM »
Hey All,
Off to Deadwood for a 4 day round trip with a few Winger's. I'll be on the 84 but wish I could of taken the 75. I have never been to the Black Hill's but everyone I speak with say's you will love it and the riding. Meeting another in Ft. Lupton then off to Lusk WY then Deadwood should about a 7.5 hour trip for me with the stops.

Pray no Hail. No overpasses I don't think where I'm going. LOL

Paul,

Have you heard about the baseball size hail just east of Sturgis last week? Seriously. Some major damages including a guy in a tent that got hit in the head and knocked out. Another guy told me it came crashing through the roof vent in his RV and split his head open. Be sure to take good rain gear. Afternoon monsoons and hail VERY possible.

Yes, no overpasses between Cheyenne and Deadwood.
As of today 3/13/2012 my original owner 75 CB750F has made it through 3 wives, er EX-wives. Free at last.  ;-)

Good luck and dont miss the chance to go over Needles Highway! Well worth it. Deadwood itself is a bit touristy but the ride in is worth is.

Have fun!
cheers
Andy

I did hear of the hail but no stories. I'll just bring a huge blanket and some duct tape  LOL.
I'll be as safe as I can. :) Hope they have some sweet roads out there. where doing a poker run on a big loop to Devil's Tower about 250 mile run on thurs.

78, let me know if you need any details. Being that I'm a South Dakotan and been there many times. Just give me a call, send me an email, or post a question here.

Suggestions:

Take the Spearfish canyon loop from Spearfish to Savoy (look at the Roughlock Falls at Savoy), Then on to Cheyenne Crossing, Lead, then Deadwood. Once done in Deadwood, head south on 383 or back track on 85 to 17 South and head to Rochford (nice drive, but hard surface only one way in). 385 South to Hill City (stop by the Black Hills Museum of Natural History and check out the dinosoars and stuff) Yes, South Dakota has had more T-Rex fossils then the rest of the world! Then Many ways south to Keystone to see Mt Rushmore. (ALT16 is the best way to see Mt Rushmore, but take it from the South heading North... And Hot Springs is a lower elevation town with Wind Cave National Park right North of it.

Enjoy!
