like the title says, is it worth lightening the rocker arms and is it something i can tackle in my garage?
Of all God's creatures there is only one that cannot be made the slave of the lash. That one is the cat. If man could be crossed with the cat it would improve man, but it would deteriorate the cat.

IMO:  unless you had a different camshaft that required extremely high RPMs, no.

Don't know about doing it yourself but I'd say it's worth it if you have high lift cams. Might be worth a PM to kos to get his expert take on things here as he sells lightened rocker arms for race bikes...

 (that would be Word-Word) ;D

It doesnt really look like much has been removed on the M3 lightened units and it could probably be done at home. I have also seen them where the rib on the backs were ground down a little and was also radiused to get rid of the sharp edge.

i figured, if the rockers were lighter, the spring pressures can be lightened (when i go to a larger cam) thats how i kept valve train wear down when i hot-rodded air cooled vw's. i could run a much lighter spring in the motors i could spin to 7000-8000 revs by using the alloy rockers and titanium retainers. it made for a longer lasting street motor and less frequent valve adjustments.
