Gl1000, Hondamatic wheels on 750 K0
« on: August 05, 2009, 02:35:39 PM »
Hi All,
Another question from a newb. I've seen a few post on here about putting the aluminum rims from a 75-77 GL1000 or Hondamatic on a cb750k but they all reference replacing the hole front end(triple tree forks, etc...).

Is it possible to put these aluminum rims on a K0 as they are or must I replace the front end as well? If not why not?

I know some of you may be wondering why would I put these on a K0 but the P.O. turned it into a chopper and I am having a hard time finding original parts so am just going cafe style.

Thanks in Advance

You might get away with swaping the Auto wheels but the GL1000 might have thicker axles.
This is perhaps why people swap the complete front end plus you have the twin disc from the later option.

most people just lace the 750 hub to the gl wheels
Funny thing about regret is...... its better to regret something you have done than to regret something you haven't done.

It's a straight swap for the front.  I did it on my bike.  The hubs are the same on the front.  I don't remember if the GL1000 is dual disc.  If it is, you'll have to figure out a different spacer situation.  There's plenty of posts about that for people converting to dual disc.  I already had a dual disc setup with a stock CB750 wheel so I didn't have to make any changes.  The rear, however, is a shaft drive hub so you'll need to re-lace that wheel.

Coincidentally, I have a 1975 GL1000 rear wheel that I need to get rid of.  Please PM me if you are interested.

I read somewhere that the hondamatic rear wheel fits, it's a drum I believe so I shouldn't need to relace...hopefully.

Thanks for all the input.

'Matic rear should be a straight swap, 18 inch wire, drum brake.
If your sure it's a carb problem; it's ignition,
