Did the bike have a blown head gasket? Just seeing the oil seepage around the head.
Everything looks pretty tight, valves look OK.

Looks like a good start. I wanted to redo the top end this time around, but money ran out and it looks like it's a good thing I didn't as i'm running out of time as well. It's neat to see these old 650s getting fixed up, seems there are more and more of them. Or maybe I just notice since I have one now :)

thanks guys yes hush the head gasket was craked in about 3 or 4 places hints the oil seepage im just trying to remeber to put the o-rings back on the sides of the cylinders back on when im done. How do yall suggest cleaning up the piston domes and combustion chambers my dad told me that a hard brush and a drill will work perfectly but I dunno. The one thing that surprised me was that I could still see the cross-hatching on the cylinders. and do you guys know anything about the white stuff in the exhaust headers?

I think maybe that white stuff is well burned gas/oil mix, better than finding a whole lot of unburned fluffy carbon I guess.
Not sure about cleaning the tops of the pistons but it's bound to be in the FAQs section somewhere, an old vacuum cleaner in the shed is handy for the bits that insist on trying to go back down past the rings to the sump. :)

He probably did it right just need to use a feeler guage to get the distance right on them, they are a #$%* to gap but it has to be done. :D

I feel you on the valve adjustment.. mines been done 4x since in the last 3 weeks..  :o
First time the PO did it and totally f**ked it up. Now my buddy has done it.. 3x. but the
first 2x we got the sequence wrong. you have to do it in the exact order the Honda manual
says to do it in. There are several opinions as to the gaps on these forums, but we set it as
the book recommends and now it it fine. Of course The motor is apart while the top ends gets
machined and my guy is in louisiana shooting his documentary. But, we ran it before it was all
taken apart and as far as the valves go, she was fine. Ill let you know how it goes after we
get the top end installed.

they do tick, it's an air cooled motor so you get to enjoy all the sounds these motors have.

I wasn't trying to be offensive, it sounds like you've given it a go and a wise man knows when to throw in the towel and move on. YOU have to decide how much effort and money you want to put in to it, and everyone is different. I seriously hope you are able to get a fair price for your bike and you are able to find one that you can enjoy. Some of us enjoy tinkering (that would be me) some of us enjoy riding, and some of us find a way to do both. There is nothing wrong with any of the three types.

Maybe that noise is the cam chain, again a pain in the ass to get right but easily adjusted, in fact Kit showed me a way to do it while the bike was running, just get the bike idling and slacken the cam chain adjuster off a little, now retighten the adjuster nut. I did this one day and the engine went so silent I thought it had stalled. :)
