carbs carbs carbs
« on: August 26, 2009, 07:10:39 PM »
Well I got my floats dialed in so I'm not gettin any gas shooting out the over flow tubes. Now to a new problem. Got bike started and once I give a little throttle in shuts off. Pulled the bowls off and it seemed that #1 carb isn't getting gas fast enough. Could the problem of the motor cutting off once the throttle is given be that the gas is not filling bowls fast enough? I'm planning tomarrow to remove carbs and clean them out. I did notice that some trash was in the fuel lines. Could my carbs be getting clogged up?

Yes thats a problem. You must clean the carbs and give the bike a full tuneup. What kind of bike is it? Honda? Just kidding.

So, the strategy is to lie to people you are asking for help?

I think I'll be busy going for a ride.

Good luck!

Check the gas line and the petcock to make sure they're not full of gunk as well.

I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!

No it's all good, you spelt Rotarura correctly, it is in the South Island in the Milford sound, you must know New Zealand pretty well as it's not a very populous area. ;D

Huston is in Australia up near Cairns, named after Phillip Huston the famous British explorer, they often have problems there, usually crocodiles. ;)

+1

start with your tank.  if its dirty, your carbs will always be a pain in the @$$.
take your tank off and shake vigorously, empty some gas, shake again, empty some gas.....repeat until its empty.  if the last gas you still pour out contains debris, pour in some fresh and repeat until its clear.  at this point, check for rust.  if there is, you may want to coat your tank.  search for POR 15 or Tank Lining in this board.  tons of info.
Clean your fuel lines (or get new ones), inline filter if you have one, and remove the bank of carbs to clean clean and clean.  check your float valves for proper function, clean your emulsifier tubes, main and pilot jets.  if you clean it well, you probably wont need to do it again.
add 1/3 bottle of SEAFOAM to your tank before you fill it.
