Honda 360 question

Friend called...has a 74 Honda 360 that ran last year.  Says no spark.  Took off side points cover and he had oil there.  Am I correct like with the 750's there should be no oil under the points cover?  I have not had a chance to see the bike yet.  He said his coils have a honeycomb look to them like they boiled over...my guess is he needs new coils.

On the 360 the points are run off of the left side of the camshaft on the top of the engine, so he should definitely not have any oil in there.  I've never seen coils with a "honeycomb" look to them, but it doesn't sound good.

No Honda that I know of has oil with the points. Find the leak and fix that first. Then go for the rest.

Probably just an oil seal behind the advancer.  Easy fix.

There is an oil seal & two rubber plugs behind that cover.
Check cam bore for play, if it is ok, then replace all three rubber parts.
No use changing the seal without changing the 30 year old plugs too.

if its only seal you got lucky.
 Usually though, seal leaks because cam bearings are worn.
 Need to pull cam cover and cam, to check

Is he really in the points? Sounds like he pulled the alternator cover looking for points! ???

I have coils for that bike. I just got a 360 with a locked up motor.
