Anyone ever seen scrambler pipes on a 750?
« on: August 05, 2009, 10:14:37 AM »
I had this weird idea about them when I was lying in bed last night, I've seen so many cool looking bikes with high exhaust, and some like an xs650 that were not offered with it have had custom scrambler exhausts fabricated. Has this been done to a 750 as far as anyone knows?

I am sure it has been done.  I have seen cb750 trackers.  BUB makes some high scrambler pipes for xs650.  They probably have them for 750's too

Carpy did it several years ago. I've seen many pictures, mostly bobber type things.

call me a noob, but what are scrambler pipes?! from the description you gave it sounds like what i'm doing on my 650; cutting the mac 4-1 right after the collector and re-routing the pipe to follow the frame tube up towards the seat, then dump pretty much at the top of the tire.

or are we on two different pages?

scrambler pipes are pretty much at the exhaust port level from front to back. Hugely impractical as even on scramblers you'll burn yourself.

Like this, but on both sides for a CB750

Dave said he's never burned his leg on the bike I posted previously.  Although Im sure its going to differ with a stock bike design.

That's true, I may have overstepped. After all, Honda sold a ton of scramblers and I don't think they ever paid a medical burn bill.

If the shields are in place and the long pants are in place, all should be OK. On a wider bike, more care is taken but survival rates are high.  ;D

My statement came from a personal place.  (I don't think I like them.)

I opened your link and there was nothing there. You have to clue us in to go one link deeper.  ;D

His has that little extra work of bending them so they tuck in.  I'm sure that wasn't an easy thing to do, but makes all the difference.

This suject was just hit on, not too long ago and we have a mem ber here (kghost0 who is working on his "Frankenbike" which he is in the process of building his own set of "scrambler style" pipes for his build. Only thing is, his pipes are going 4 into 2, leaving only one pipe actually going down the side, after each side. IMHO, 4 pipes going down the side of the bike (2 on each side) seem just a bit "crowed" to me. Just MY opinion, mind you.  :) ;)

does this make sense? following the regular exhaust line until the footpeg, then bringing it up, sort of outlining the frame...

I love the way that project looks, the bike below is what made me think of it, its the first year CL450 also known as the CB450D it was sold as a retrofit for Black Bombers that were not moving off dealers floors. I believe its the only Honda scrambler with a high pipe on each side.

I put together a high pipe system around 1980.

Started off with a turbo pipe, then built flange and back pipe.. later put a megaphone on it. It runs above the dyno, tucks in, till it get to the notched sidecover, the runs downhill.

Will try to bump up a thread with a pic, then someone can cut & glue it..

High pipes rule, love them.. ;D

Check out page 2, Pennzoil Test thread... ;D
