Question from a newb! not mechanical
« on: August 05, 2009, 05:49:59 PM »
Wondering if all 69 and early 70 750's are sandcast's

I am just curious, as I know they are very valuable and if I by chance come across one for sale for a few hundred, I should buy?

thanks

now, I am not an expert, but I don't think sandcasts even made it to '70.

I am probably wrong.

Here's how I understand it....there were 400 and something sandcast motors made before Honda used a mold to cast the casings and these motors were installed in the first K0 bikes but were not all used-up  before the 'mold' motors began to be installed also....result that some K1's ( 1970 ) had a sandcast motor installed......anyone else ?

good to know! the reason i ask is i found a 69 up north for cheap. it's in sad shape, but I seen a 69 going for 5500 on ebay in the same condition, as it was a sandcast.

is it automatically a sandcast if it has the wrinkle tank?

As I understand it, a wrinkle tank is on sandcast and also on the ones that are die cast in the 69 & 70.

I' buy it if its only a few hundred,  way I look at it, if it DOES turn out to be a sandcast, you've got a killer resto project that will fetch hug money.
These bikes dont die, they hibernate until the right person wakes them up again.

A wrinkle tank can be put on just about any 750, so no, the tank on a bike may have nothing at all to do with the serial number of the engine or bike itself.

If it has a wrinkle tank or a sandcast motor, I will def. pick it up.

If not, then maybe
