I just am trying to get a 1975 CB550K1 started that has been sitting in a barn for a few years. After taking apart the carburetors and cleaning them up (did not break the four apart) I tried to start her up. It fired and ran for a minute or two. I noticed that there was a goodly sum of oil coming from under the left side end cap at the end of the cam cover so I took the end cap off to check it out.
The rubber o-rings on the steel dowels look to be in good condition but the small neoprene washers between the o-rings have either come out or are coming out from between the o-rings. I looked at the parts fiche and noticed that there is supposed to be a thrust washer on top of the bolt that holds the end cap support piece into the engine's cylinder head cover. I am missing the thrust washer. Not sure what the difference is between a regular washer and a thrust washer. Are the o-rings replaceable on the steel dowels, as I am assuming that is where the leak must be coming from, although the rubber looks good.
