I'm new...and like it already
« on: August 06, 2009, 11:31:21 AM »
Hey Guys...I found myself checking out a mid seventies CB750 cafe'd, online a few months ago thought it was pretty nifty. ..... well, it has turned into an obsession... where I spent 3 1/2 months trying to track down the right deal for me.  As I am on a small budget, the bikes were either out of my price range (in good shape) or being snatched up quicker than I could get there!    I finally....just last weekend grabbed up a 1978 CB 750 K.... the last year of the SOHC... for $300.  It has sat for 2 years, and is quite snotty...but it's a good platform for a budget Cafe build...and I can't wait to get started!!

My plans.... get it running first to make sure
Complete tear down... (less engine bottom end...hopefully) and after plenty of elbow grease, time and some paint...hopefully minimal money (Less than $1000)...I'll have myself a lil' bad ass Bike.

ANyways...I'm up here in Canada... so my deadline is next spring.... to be rippin' up the northern tarmac next summer.

This seems to be quite the forum....look forward to being a member!
Cheers!

And if you should keep track, whatever you do, do not share it with your better half.  :) Welcome.

AHahaha.... Good call on not keeping track of what I spend!  I like you guys... .one piece at a time...and keep the lady "un-notified" of what I'm actually buying.  After all....most wives only really catch on to the visual gizmo's....not so much all the work that goes on under the skin.(mine for sure)
Gonna be a good time!  ..... I just found out the wiring harness is FRIED, a couple of wires melted their skin off...Poop!

Cheers Guys!

NO NO NO NO...... YOU didn't understand..... not just to post a few pics...... take lots of pics and start your own "build photo book" which you can post here on this forum in the project shop threads on the home page.  Best way is to get a manila envelope and put ALL receipts in it. Keep that buried under dirty or heavy items so inquistive eyes don't find. Don't pay any attention to it other to shove new into it.  Then after the build is complete. you can, if you wish, pull them all out and add them up to see either....how little it cost you to have your great bike! or did I really spend THAT much on this great bike?  BUT MOST IMPORTANT ! ! !  Have FUN doing it and then enjoy riding it.

My manilla envelope has overflowed into a three-ring binder over the years  :(  :)
