Lower crankcase oil baffle plate
« on: November 24, 2005, 12:49:25 PM »
After all the thrill of finally removing the stubborn screws that held the oil baffle plate in place, I discovered that thing cannot be removed!! Seems like there are some rivets directly into the crankcase. I tried prying with a screwdriver, but that plate seems to be easyly broken -before even starting to bend. The reason for wanting to remove it is, as you can see in the picture, that the crankcase is full of sludge and aluminium shavings, and I want to pressure wash it thoroughfully. How -if possible- can that plate be removed?

I know the problem, as I found it while I tore down the engine. The previous owners never adjusted the camchain tension. The cam chain has been hitting the cilinder walls, shaving off the aluminium. I already have bought a new one. BTW, what's the difference between 219T and 219H?

When i used to do the 250's regular (DO NOT thrash the motor from cold---the rings shatter!) we just used to wash out the case half in one of those parts washers that pumps the fluid round and round. I think the t and h are just different manufacturers

Advice taken Bryan!!! I will spray a good dose of degreaser, let it seat and flush it with the hot water hose in the gas station, repeating in case it's needed. Advice taken also about taking it easy during warm up once the bike is rebuilt.
