Yeah, that's right, I've been trying off and on, to get things lined out so that I could get a bike back on the street and, up til now, haven't been to where I could seem to get it done. Now that I have the GPZ I have to get that puppy insured and I'm looking for some input, before I start talking to Insurance companies. Got my van with USAA and they do Motorcycles, but I want the best all around company with the best possible price, you know?  I'd been messing with dirt bikes and ya don't have to have THEM insured.

Bill, I use Progressive, but USAA is top notch.

+1

Especially since you already have USAA for your van I'm sure you'll get a multiple vehicle discount.  Besides, it's almost impossible to beat USAA's rates and services.

  • I have to return some videotapes.
I have USAA and they do not insure motorbikes, they farm it out through Progressive.

However, since it's Progressive via USAA, I can call USAA if Progressive gives me a hard time, and they handle it, (USAA is awesome).

Having said that, I've never had a problem with Progressive.  Great customer services, the prices are good, coverage is fine and friends that have Progressive say that payouts on claims is no problem, unlike other insurers who try to screw you around, (State Farm, from a buddy of mine, he now uses Progressive).  I say Progressive.

Do they give discounts for multiple vehicles, though?  That would be an advantage if you already have another vehicle insured with them.

Not sure.

I carry bare-minimum Liability on my bikes since, because of the age, no one will pay the ACTUAL worth. Liability is $75 a year for the old Hondas.  I've got six bikes insured, four on one policy and two on another and they are all $75 a year each, period.

$75 a year, or a little over six bucks a month is not bad, to me.  Collision, and even Comprehensive is not much more, but the big Crusher is "Uninsured Motorist", if you want that, be prepared to pay.  Along with Medical Coverage.  That is also a Crusher.

Yeah, I've been with USAA since 2006, right after I got my 06' Grand Caravan. Had State Farm for years (under one agent) and had NO problems. THen, our agent (who my wife Brenda, helped get started and then she retired from the insurance business! We got another State Farm agent who was closer to where we live AND things went downhill from there. Then I switched to USAA. I just didn't know if there might  be a better deal out there, so I thought I'd ask (Never hurts to ask.). I'll give USAA a call and see how it goes. Need to get squared away so I can (legally) take the GPZ out for a run. Kinda anxious to see what kind of reaction I get around here with this one. You never see anything like it. Just see the Wings, H-Ds, The H-D look-a-likes, the Crotch Rockets and the occasional Hayabusa. Don't worry, I'm not gonna go out there and get Stupid on you all. ::)

Yeah, discounts for multiple vehicle. Surely a motorcycle couints in that category. :)

Progressive here too.  $75 a year is as low as they go.  I think my FZR1000 is $82.

I must have missed where you got the GPZ Bill.  That's awesome.  I've always wanted one of those things.  Is it the 750?  Turbo?

And if they don't offer it up-front, it never hurts to ask. ;)

Sorry bout that! Yes I got me an 83' GPZ1100 (still has a great working fuel injection system too) and I am trying to get used to those handle bars! I tried clip-ons on my 66' Honda CB72 years ago and didn't like them. These bars aren't as low or as short as those were though.

On the GPZ, Check here:  http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?topic=55924.0   and the avatar ;)

Whoa!  That's a beast there.  Glad you're enjoying it.  It's nice to have a more "modern" bike to ride while you work on the others.

I've noticed the forward lean with low bars makes it feel like you're going much slower than you actually are.  Make sure to peek at the speedometer once in a while in town.  That should help keep your insurance rates down. ;)

I'm with USAA as well, but Progressive won't insure a bike in Washington, DC (not very progressive, if you ask me).

So I wound up with Formost insurance, through USAA.  Good luck with them so far.

When you have the option, they're the best.  My wife and I are able to use them because my dad was in the Army and he and my mom have been with them for years.  Military families get some good perks.

Oy Yeah, My Dad was military and had me eligible AND I was ALSO military, so I had NO problem getting the insurance. I know that SOME might not know about that part though. Thanks for throwing that in there. ;)

Yep. See if your auto and homeowners people can give you a deal. That is how ours works and it is very cheap.

Wello, it's been awhile since I started this and now, I finally got around to getting a quote through USAA (Progressive, for motorcycles as has been said). For BOTH the GPZ AND the CBX with more than just liability, the quote was $251 for 12 months coverage (saving some because of the multi-vehicle discount). I may do a bit of changing, but I think I'm going to go with Progressive. Like has been said, since it's through USAA, if things get out of line or whatever, I can just get hold of USAA and get things taken care of. USAA has been good to me and, surely if they have Progressive with them, things should go well. I'll be back when I have it nailed down. :)
