This thread just gave me an idea (that I will probably never get a chance to use). Is there any good way to paint on top of chrome and have it look good?
I'm envisioning a two toned paint scheme for a tank in which the two tones are dark red and chrome.
I guess another problem would be the clearcoat.
Any thoughts?
Anyways awesome looking bike, I like the wrapped exhaust, it avoids a chrome overload. I'm impressed.
you can paint anything if you prep it right. the trick is getting the edges to hold well. you need to sand it thoroughly everywhere it will get painted. right up to your tape line.
rule of thumb is paint won't stick to anything shiny. like a sticker on a car window- it peels off easily, because window is smooth. sticker on a rough surface sticks a lot better. painters call it giving the surface 'teeth'. something to sink into.
I have painted chrome w/ rattle cans and w/ spray guns. different types of paint as well. what matters is the prep.
and the chrome will not need clear. just leave it taped off. and retape after sanding to keep your edges sharp.
good luck, feel free to ask me ?'s
