SOHC Four Helmet Purchase Help Needed
« on: August 07, 2009, 07:15:41 PM »
Ok, I added the SOHC so as not to violate the thread category -

Guys, I want to buy one seriously good helmet. I have 7 full-face helmets today, but none of those really fit what I want in a helmet. Two years ago, I had 62 helmets in my garage that me and a freind (Buddy) purchased from a closing dealer.

Considering only quality, safety, function, and ventilation (ventilation and quality are extremely important), I will buy a solid-White helmet - no more colors. I have SRS, HJC, and Bell, but their trim is cheap, their air-flow is virtually non-existent, and I'm tired of trying to match colors with bikes. I think it's time to invest in one top-of-the-line helmet and use that for every bike I ride - no matter if it's green, burgandy, red, black, purple, or blue -

If you have already or were going to buy your last, your one and only full-face helmet for comfort, ventilation, quality - without graphics and without concern for price, what would it be?

Thanks for the inputs. Gordon

Every helmet is differant and fits way differant.  :) Dose that help? I have a HJC AC-12 Carbon (Carbon fiber and Kevlar)  Some people stay HJC is crap, but there top of the line stuff is pretty good. Mine fits me well and vents very good. Alot of people I know like the Shoei RF-1000 Which I thought about getting but none of there sizes fit me and there don't have full removable liner which is silly for the price.

The Shoei X-11 is rated the best for airflow and it comes in white.  Pricey however.

Gordon, I have an RF1000 now and fiqure Shoei ranks right up there for protection. It fits like a glove, is quiet and although I haven't worn many new helmets to compare I think it does a good job venting on a hot day.

If I had to replace it, I would consider the same hat again.

Thanks guys. I plan to spend 8-10 hours a day in a new helmet for days on end later this year. I've bought a new 2009 ST1300ABS and it's like a pot-belly stove to sit on, ventilation and quiet are absolutely essential for my next purchase. Unfortunately, I've spent 4-5 times what an expensive helmet would cost buying these mid-priced HJC's and SRS models I have. Not bad, but nothing I want to live in for 10 hours. I won't cheap-out on this one.

I figure White is probably the most reflective and coolest in the sun, plus it rids me of having to fuss with bike colors. White doesn't match anything I own, so I'll buckle it up and just go -

+1000    I've had the RF1000 for 2 full seasons now and it still fits awesome.

Hey Gordon.... what size do wear?  I have a brand new Shoei X-11 that was only worn to try the fit.  Size XL.  Unfortunately a tad big for me.  PM me if you're interested.

I haven't had that many helmets but the best I had was an Arai Quantam.  Pricey yes.  But for me Arai helmets fit the best, I've got an oval head!  Fit, finish, comfort and quality were top notch.

I'm a longer distance rider - NJ to Arkansas and back.  Vegas, AZ, Utah loop about 3500 miles in 10 days.  Those types of rides.  On the vegas ride I went from 20 degrees to about 108 degrees.  Helmet worked well in all temps.  Good ventilation, minimal fogging was really comfortable and held up pretty well.

Arai also has a good customer support.

So if you haven't already check one out...

I heard that Suomy fits well if you have a big round noggin.  I unfortunately, have a small head with a flat spot in the back.  Also, I hear that Arai are really well ventilated.
